I can't help but think Wilkins lack of footballing contacts is shooting us in the foot somewhat.

People said the same about MM, yet both managers got players in from Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal, West Ham, Charlton, Blackburn, Coventry, QPR, Spurs, Villa, Hull, Ipswich and that's just off the top of my head.

As far as I can see that statement is bullshit. Which other teams in this league are getting players in left, right and centre from divisions above us?

When will we learn a free bus pass just doesn't cut it.

Can't remember Micky Adams ever having problems bringing in quality player at short notice.

Wilkins has 2 games left to turn it around and i really hope he does. Can't face League 2 football next season, although should be able to pay on the day at most away games.

Where does the assumption come from that Wilkins has got a lack of contacts? I fail to see how you can spend all your life in football and have a brother like Ray Wilkins without having contacts in the game! The main problem as I see it is the board failing to provide decent wages for decent players that would pull the crowds in.

Well, the fact that he's clinging to the hope of getting some Ipswich cast offs indicates to me that he's not got many leads at other clubs.

Also, the fact that he spent the majority of his playing career at one club i believe (this one) means he's not particularly well known away from the South Coast.

Of course, the lack of money is also a problem, but our options are reduced with such a rookie manager.

At least people had heard of McGhee and we were able to bid for them alright...of course, the same wages problem was always there though.

.

Maybe he watched a few players in the Reserve league finals thing and fancied a few. We know our scouting isn't up to much so this may have been his only chance to have a good look at some players.

Yeah bloody right, neither did Brian Clough and Jimmy Melia, you have to ask questions of the club and the manager when situations and circumstances change over time.

Lack of cash is the problem .. the board realise it , most of NSC realises it (i think)

we just havent the resorces to compete with the other clubs , At best i think we probably have a playing budget and set up not far off conference standards ..

confused but if we can get him and Stephen Hughes the season just got very interesting. If we don't get him would imagine it because we are unwilling to match his wage which would be quite hefty being at a top championship side

Players might have heard of McGhee but that does'nt mean they want to play for him.

Wilkins has allready proved last season he had the ability to attract players from further away and lets not forget he also clung onto the hope of signing Whing and Forster who he eventualy got. Maybe these so called cast off's from Ipswich could prove to be the players we need to help push us up the league or would you rather we just don't bother chasing new signings at all?
