Only coming up because SOMEHOW there are STILL some morons who abuse Barnes. Can you believe it? Ridiculous, isn't it?

It is quite unbelievable isn't it. It doesn't even seem hard to fathom in my mind, in fact, a quote in your signature should tell everyone all they need to know.

"The players play the way I want the team to play." Gus Poyet.

Therefore, for Ashley to be such a regular, and vital part of the team Gus puts out every week, MUST mean that Ashley does EXACTLY what Gus asks of him. Even if someone doesn't have the footballing understanding to see it for themselves, can they not just settle on "ah, maybe Gus knows more than me, I guess he MUST be better than I realise."

The majority of football fans are just that football fans, have spent there life watching football and not playing it to a decent standard. This means that the majority of fans "ball watch" they follow the ball over the park with there eyes and not look at the bigger picture

That's a bit of an assumption. You mean, you can only know anything about football if you played it ?? Sorry, that just doesn't scan. Still, I don't see why anyone supporting us would get on Barnes' back.

I think some people will never be comfortable with the way Gus wants us to play, even if we went on to win BIG things with him. GENUINELY, they'll still want to find something to complain about, because the style of the club just doesn't sit right with them.

I think a lot of people would be much happier with 50-50, lump it forward, kick and rush old fashioned English football, not forgetting lots of PASSION.

Unfortunately for them, Tony saw something special in Gus, something a little bit different, and something tells me that when (eventually) Tony needs to find a new man, it won't be a "traditional, long ball" manager.

Good times are here for a long time to come. If you don't enjoy patient, passing football, you genuinely might have to find another club to support, as you'll find no joy here.

I am absolutely LOVING it. We are SO lucky.

Where in the Amex is the complaining coming from though? There certainly hasn't been any that I've heard around where I sit.

There's a few behind me in the North Stand for sure. Every minor mistake is pounced upon with a "fuckin ell Barnes" or similar. Then again, they don't appear the sharpest knives in the kitchen anyway. Every game, there's always an opposition player who is subject to their intelligent appraisal.- "**********" (name of player) - Youuuuuuuuuu caaaaaaaaaaaaaaant". (Repeated multiple times during the game).

Its sad that a player like Ashley Barnes could potentially be driven from the club due to morons like these.......

Come on Mellotron. No-one gets it right all the time. Not even Gus. And no-one is wrong all the time. I certainly wouldn't dismiss all the views of a person because I disagreed on an issue with them.

No fair enough. I'm just saying it doesn't seem to be a coincidence that quite a few of the same posters aren't comfortable with passing football and were quick to get on Murray's back.

This would be a pretty dull place if we all bowed to what Gus says. Gus changes his mind like the rest of us, and players he rates may for any number of reasons not perform so well.

Exactly my sentiments.

As I have posted before though. I feel I have had a footballing education in the last two years. I know more about the game itself from watching the Albion in that period than all the years before.

That is not to say you could not learn from other managers. MA showed the importance of team spirit. And it is interesting that the lynchpin of that spirit is employed by Gus - to the surprise of 99.99% of us.

I dont mean that, I speak from experaince with people i go with, some of us have played a decent standard and some are just followers, at the end of the game we have massive differances of opinions on what we have seen, i give you an example, I think it was the Leicester game, Ashley Barnes didnt score, but made some great covering headers when we were under pressure and some excellent coverage work which took key players out of the game. My friends said he had a poor game because he mis-placed 4 passes. My point is, the more you play football the more you are aware of the overall picture, what players are doing off the ball and the effort they put in, Gary Neville in his summarrsing on Sky is excellent at this.

Everyone has their own opinion - what makes it alughable and a little sad is how those opinions swing hugely in the space of a few minutes.

During the Ipswich game the guy behind me was giving Barnes barrels. He then plants one in the bottom corner and he starts going beserk chanting his name. Then mis-controls a pass and he is on his back again. He then cooly slots home the third and he is singing his name again.

And it is only with Barnes that some people have this mypoic bizarre behviour towards. Weird. Very weird.

Is this for real?

If so it beggars belief. How can a young kid who is constantly improving and has been an integral part of the best Brighton team for at least the last twenty years be getting so much abuse? It makes no sense at all. And it also means that those abusing him are saying that Poyet is also a bit shit as its Poyet who keeps playing him. Plenty of other players are rotated, Barnes barely is. That must tell you something?

Barnes must be one of Poyet's best signings, certainly in terms of value for money. Bridcutt for free was an incredible bit of business, Greer has been a rock in his time with us and getting Vincente to join us was a major coup but the Barnes signing is up there with them.

I really hope that the majority of fans get right behind the lad and let him know that he's appreciated.

You mean Charlie Oatway, another constant victim of the boo-boys as I recall... and whose role in the side wasn't properly appreciated until he broke his ankle... and we got relegated.

Repeat until hoarse with a big smile on your face and in true appreciation of one of the best players to wear a Brighton shirt for 30 years.
