Does his current contract expire in July this year? Imagine the scenario if Palace picked him up on a free ???

I think the problem is in an ideal world most of the fans would want to see a side featuring Vicente, Buckley, Noone, CMS and Lua Lua, so throw in a holding midfielder or two and whatever way you dice it up there's no starting role for Barnes.

There's no doubt his form has improved over recent weeks, and he is only 22 so still learning. I think he's beginning to relax into the link man role Gus clearly believes the side needs, particularly as it seems every other attacking player is droppable apart from him.

Probably just as well we fans don't pick the team!!

Whilst I agree with Naylor, he is perpetuating the problem by making it an issue again. He seems to have a habit of doing this.

Totally agree. And the article should have been written a few weeks ago. Even his most vicious detractors seem to have gone a bit quiet lately after his improved performances and the excellent goals against Cardiff and Ipswich.

I imagine the damage is done as far as Barnes is concerned. Did I imagine it or did he get a load of grief from Plymouth fans as well?

Shame that he's probably be driven away, the only people who'll be pleased are the wankers who berate him all game every game.

Barnes vs. the Rest:

Barnes goes down to easily - Very happy when Murray did it all last season
Barnes gives the ball away too often - No more than Reyes or others in the squad
Barnes only scores penalties (1) - Nobody else can actually TAKE a penalty consistently
Barnes only scores penalties (2) - He's scored in open play quite often this season, unlike others
Barnes looks lazy - Again, see Glenn Murray
Barnes has a bad temperament - Greer, our Captain and example setter , if far worse and Lewis "he's only young so we tend to ignore his 10-odd yellows" Dunk is hardly a shining light

In short, and I find this EVERY single game in WSL barnes makes a minor error and he is pilloried loudly and often wildly laughed at, ANY other player makes a major cock up and its almost completely ignored.

What really grates is that the morons around me actually look forward to and enjoy Barnes' mistakes which is an attitude I simply cannot subscribe to. Fans are entitled to their opinions but their blinkered biased approach is embarrassing.

I nearly got thrown out when the row behind realised I had Barnes on my shirt and they had to wait all match before Barnes sliced a shot to crowbar in the inevitable "Haha, bet you feel stupid in your shirt now" comment.

i would also say that they slate the team in general as being "not good enough"... Sometimes, I wonder why they go.

Barnesy is coming in for some flack because they are comparing him to CMS who runs 20km all over the pitch during 90 minutes. They ignore the fact he now supports the midfield and defence instead of being an out and out striker. If Ryan Harley is in the matchday squad they'll all be moaning about him instead.

It's a shame that all the running about is not that effective at this level.

£70k for Barnes

£2.5m for CMS

I loved watching Barnes score all those goals last season and at the end of the season before, IMHO he is one of the best players we have had up front in the last 10 years.

I'm going to throw this onto the fire, 1st Naylor writes for a paper they love to stroke a fire up, it sells papers. 2nd Barnes makes his living infront of 1000's of people who think they know the game, maybe some do, but if he can't deal with a few having a go when he mis-controls a pass then he's in the wrong job because he'll get that whatever team he plays for. 3rd who can tell us when he's contract is up ? cause this starts to sound like an agent wants more money to stay, my player is under pressure from his own teams fans,, or my player needs to get away because the fans are destroying him. By the way I didn't get to watch Barnes last season due to work and to be honest I'm not impressed with his 1st touch but he does have the knack of always being in the thick of the action and does a job for the team abit like a certain AE who took alot of stick but saw it through.

If his agent is stirring things up then Barnesy could well find himself playing at the Groupon Stadium next season.
