The majority of football fans are just that football fans, have spent there life watching football and not playing it to a decent standard. This means that the majority of fans "ball watch" they follow the ball over the park with there eyes and not look at the bigger picture,

I hate this old chestnut. I've never played football as I'm a clumsy oaf but I like to think I appreciate the finer aspects of the game. I think the people who "just ball watch" are probably just a bit dim. I don't think it's anything to do with footballing experience.

Hasn't that been more of the sentiment on here of late? It seems to me that more of the posters on here have been coming to his defence and criticising the barnes moaners in the last month or so.

I can only hope that the moron 2 rows behind me at Anfield who called Ashley Barnes "a disgrace" is reading this. I doubt whether he has the intelligence to realise what a cretin, pr*ck and canute he made of himself.

Had his name put on my shirt saturday pre-match (I ended up getting near constant abuse for it in the WSL but I don't care. I think Barnes is superb and as I put on the POTS Poll thread, only perhaps Greer symbolises the "Gus Way" better than Barnes.

I love him and am very glad he's playing for and not against us.

Agreed. It's taken a while for the fans to appreciate the role that he plays, but now the vast majority do.

All I can hope is that proving the boo boys wrong improves his game even more.

It would be a whole lot better if we didn't have so many so-called boo boys claiming to support the club.

I just think this one is getting close to taking on the aura of the old hoof ball enthusiasts. Those who slated the style of our play as recently as 18 months ago, demanding we lump it forward as "you never score with a sideways pass on the halfway line" were still refusing to step back from that stance with us top of the table. Eventually, they just became figures of fun, dinosaurs within our midst, who couldn't understand the finer points of the game, and how we were developing into a skillful possession team.

The whole Barnes-debate could start turning in that direction too, with those who slate him just showing that they don't appreciate the wider role he plays within the side. I won't go into everything I believe he does for the side again, as I'm sick of repeating myself, but it's starting to look like those who don't appreciate the job he does, well, let's just say, they aren't as clued up on football as, Gus Poyet is. They are starting to sound really quite daft.

What is it with some fans who are all too quick to get on their team or certain players backs? I had Norwich v Wigan on the radio the other week, and frankly couldn't believe my ears that some Norwich fans were boo'ing their team off at FT. Unbelievable, they are pretty much safe with 10 games to go, and they have some morons boo'ing them off because of one below-par performance after the fantastic season they've had. We've got our fair share as well to be honest. I can only think that they are complete and utter idiots.

Agree 100% .....except with the wording of the final sentence. Delete "starting to sound".

Some of those people cling onto their opinion still yet, Gritt. The bloke next to me constantly complains about us not getting the ball forward quickly enough - it's as if he's seen nothing of the last two years, even though he's there every game.

And the three lads behind me (quietly, mercifully, but I can always hear them) still have a pop at Barnes. It's almost become self-parody even among themselves now – they know they shouldn't have a go at him because he's doing well and he's top scorer, but they still, despite that, think he's rubbish, and just can't help themselves. It's got to the point where they're laughing about it – but they're still not convinced.

There are, and always will be, some fans who just take against a player, and will never change their minds.

Where in the Amex is the complaining coming from though? There certainly hasn't been any that I've heard around where I sit.

The only place I've seen people complaining about Barnes is on NSC. Personally, I think he does a good job, and puts in a lot more hard work than he is given credit for, particularly in defense (when I'd rather see Gus play him further forward with CMS).

There are also many people who hurl abuse at the football because they're unhappy with their own dismal lives. You can't shout and scream abuse at the missus/boss/kids/bank etc and it's a good opportunity to vent at someone/something.

Some of the people who used to hang around the running track near the dug outs at Withdean and scream insults at the manager were quite unhinged.

Because of his 'style' of play he will attract criticism wherever he plays. As said he is still young and will learn to rise above the 'boo boys'. As for Naylor, he does seem to struggle for stories outside the press conferences these days. The Albion have tightened up the loose lips from days of old!!

I wonder why. The PRATS bit the hand that fed them.

In with a shout of back-to-back promotions, the next one into the Premier League FFS, and Barnes has been a near constant in that meteoric rise, what's not to like?

Spot on. I've noticed names and it's often the same people who

Complain about our passing game (getting us to top of the league by SIXTEEN POINTS - "pointless passing backwards eh?")

and

Gave Murray dogs abuse for being "lazy, northern scum" etc

Basically, the people who are constantly WRONG when it comes to football matters.
