wonder how many people walked to Withdean only to spot it has been called off

seen 7 thus far..

The fault with Withdean is the games get postponed mainly due to Fans Safety as I believe is what happened today regardless of what the Ref says.
Don't you think it odd, then, that the news of the 12 noon "Game ON" decision was broken on NSC by the Club's chief honcho responsible for fans' safety?

If the safety of fans had been an issue, he would have called the game off, irrespective of the referee's decision.

I dutifully checked the web and ttext before setting off on M25. The ref should take responsibility by offering to be the ref for our match v Leeds. He could make amends...

I did not know he is responsible for the fans safety so now will RETRACT my earlier comment and wonder what drugs the ref was smoking :)

Absolute joke, this is! I was really looking forward to the game today as well.
This is the second time in little over a year this has happened!

I feel sorry for all the people who travel in from long distances who are told at Mid'day that the game is on, only to be told an hour later that it's off. Not fair at all.

It's the referee's fault, not the clubs. The referee, when inspecting the pitch at 12, inspected the bit of pitch that had sun on it despite being told by the groundstaff it was the rest of the pitch that was the big problem. The club weren't happy about playing as the pitch was dangerous, so the ref scheduled the second inspection an hour later and THEN called it off.

Was the ref under pressure from the club via the groundstaff to call it off.

Why cant all ground inspections be made at 12 noon and the decision taken stick to even if the weather changes. In most cases the refs will take the safety angle and call it off and yes some will get upset if the weather does improve but better to be safe than sorry and avoid supporters travelling or at least reduce their wasted travelling.

They should have played it yesterday, the conditions were perfect.

I was sat in the pub watching the darts, OBVLIVIOUS to the decision until I got a call at 2.25 to say it was off (just before I was about to leave for the game).

What a BOLLOCKS world we live in now. Whats happened to the days when football would still be played on SNOW with an orange ball ? Fans helping to clear the pitch, groundsmen clearing the snow from the pitch markings, orange ball and all that. BRILLIANT.

Nowadays a mach gets called off because its a bit CHILLY. Has anyone ever DIED because the pitch is a bit hard ? f***ing ridiculous. Today would have been perfectly playable, PERFECTLY playable, if it was 15 years ago. Everyones so "health-and-safety-namby-f***ing-pandy" these days though, its an absolute joke.

Pathetic. With a capital PATH.

Some of you lot are complete penises!

How is this the anyone's fault?

According to someone off here (ALWAYS reliable) there was a pitch inspection at midday. If true then clearly the ref has said lets re-evaluate in an hour which he's done, it's obviously not got any better so he's called it off. Not the refs fault, not the club's fault, just one of those things.

I was going to Crowborough V Worthing today and that is off, Eastbourne is off, I'm sure loads of games across Sussex are off! It's cold outside!!

Micky Adams said that the match was called unplayable by the groundsman at 11:30. Ref said match was playable. But will make final decision at 1pm. 1pm called off

Ref was wrong, club was correct.

Ref at fault for not listening to someone who knows the ground conditions inside out and accepting his superior local knowledge.

Well I guess that tropical warm front that the ref was expecting at 12.30 just failed to materialise then. Hell, I had my flipflops in the back of the car in preperation for the 1pm HEATWAVE that would have changed everything and left us basking in soaring, pitch-thawing temperatures all afternoon. Because of course, as we've seen year-in, year-out, these winter afternoons often get warmer and warmer as the evening draws closer and the sun gets lower.

GENIUS ref. Just GENIUS.
Well. Done. Everyone.
