His username is also a mildly homophobic reference, no doubt selected specifically for this forum.

Perhaps not the best person to lecture us on respect.

No. redneb is my brother (and acting like a complete twat). He is called Bender because his name is Ben FFS. Oh and beardy gull is one of his best mates.

Passion for the Saints? Oh please do shut up. He's been your chairman for about a year.

Bloke I give not a hoot about dies. Boo ruddy hoo. This is a BHA forum. Please forgive me if I don't go all Princess Diana weepy.

'sake.

A BHA forum ? Well who started this thread that has nothing to do with BHA. Sake

and as for being homophobic, clearly I live in Brighton so what reason above anyone else would I have to be.

Just far enough away from LDC
This is sad when someone doesn't' reach their 3 score years and 10.

But on a different note I hope the chief executive hasn't been put.in charge of arrangements. Flowers will only be accepted if ordered through the official saints florist perhaps?

Let's hope they put up another one of those dodgy statues outside the ground in commemoration of the guy.

I'll be brutally honest and say I'd never heard of Markus Liebherr before this thread. It is sad anyone dying but just because he had a lot of money to throw at Southampton, shouldn't make it more newsworthy than Adam Stansfield losing his brave battle with cancer at only half his age of 31 - a footballer that all lower league fans will have heard of. :(

Two posts on another forum

I am still having a sob every 20 mins......

By the sounds of things, he knew he was dying yet still invested in us for his love of football and love off our fans. Sounds like this was allways going to happen at some point, and plans therefore were made for his family to take over after his passing......."Now if that is not love for saints, i dont know wat is" - A true loving christain footballing gentleman. You will never be forgotton markus.

Your are a saints legend....Bless your heart.....we WILL not wont, achieve your goals off being premiership within 5 seasons........ Your legacy will live on forever at soton.... God bless you brother..

i can not write anymore, i am just to upset still guys......

and

Absolutely devastated. A true saints legend. Already been down the the stadium around 8 o clock and there was a steady stream of people laying flowers/shirts and scarves. You will be sadly missed Markus. Extremely selfless too, guaranteeing our safety even after his passing. Every point, goal, tackle and pass this season is for you Markus.

Any loss of life is sad but maybe a little OTT?

Southampton owner dies

From BBC sport

Southampton owner Markus Liebherr has died, aged 62, the club has announced.

Saints have not disclosed the cause of death of the Swiss businessman, who took over at St Mary's in July 2009 to lift the club out of administration.

A club statement said: "His passing will come as an enormous shock to everyone but most particularly, of course, to his family and friends.

"Our thoughts are with them at this time. To say he will be missed is an unmistakeable understatement."

The statement added: "Anyone who came to know Markus learned of his quick wit, love of football - most especially Saints football - and his unquenchable thirst for better knowledge of all things.

"Anyone who had the privilege of meeting Markus met a man who was quiet, unassuming, undemonstrative and fantastic fun to be with.

"The welcome that Markus was given when he arrived at the Saints just over a year ago was something that gave him a deep sense of pride and satisfaction. The progress of the Saints was always uppermost in his mind.

"He would have wanted to be there when the Saints get promotion to the Premier League.

"The well-laid plans for the club that he and the executive chairman [Nicola Cortese] had mapped out over a year ago will continue to be implemented uninterrupted and nothing will change in that regard.

"The club will ensure that Markus' wishes are carried out in full. The Saints were Markus' constant preoccupation. He certainly didn't like losing.

"And his constant ambition was to see open, attacking football played to the highest possible standard. To Markus, last year was the start of getting the Saints back on the march."

Southampton won the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and finished seventh in League One, missing out on a play-off place by seven points after starting the season with a 10-point penalty, in Liebherr's only season as owner.

The club said a memorial service would be held in due course and that a book of condolence would be available for fans to sign.
