I'll be brutally honest and say I'd never heard of Markus Liebherr before this thread. It is sad anyone dying but just because he had a lot of money to throw at Southampton, shouldn't make it more newsworthy than Adam Stansfield losing his brave battle with cancer at only half his age of 31 - a footballer that all lower league fans will have heard of.

I am still having a sob every 20 mins......
By the sounds of things, he knew he was dying yet still invested in us for his love of football and love off our fans. Sounds like this was allways going to happen at some point, and plans therefore were made for his family to take over after his passing......."Now if that is not love for saints, i dont know wat is" - A true loving christain footballing gentleman. You will never be forgotton markus.
Your are a saints legend....Bless your heart.....we WILL not wont, achieve your goals off being premiership within 5 seasons........ Your legacy will live on forever at soton.... God bless you brother..

Absolutely devastated. A true saints legend. Already been down the the stadium around 8 o clock and there was a steady stream of people laying flowers/shirts and scarves. You will be sadly missed Markus. Extremely selfless too, guaranteeing our safety even after his passing. Every point, goal, tackle and pass this season is for you Markus.
Any loss of life is sad but maybe a little OTT?

Southampton owner Markus Liebherr has died, aged 62, the club has announced.
Saints have not disclosed the cause of death of the Swiss businessman, who took over at St Mary's in July 2009 to lift the club out of administration.
A club statement said: "His passing will come as an enormous shock to everyone but most particularly, of course, to his family and friends.
"Our thoughts are with them at this time. To say he will be missed is an unmistakeable understatement."
The statement added: "Anyone who came to know Markus learned of his quick wit, love of football - most especially Saints football - and his unquenchable thirst for better knowledge of all things.
"Anyone who had the privilege of meeting Markus met a man who was quiet, unassuming, undemonstrative and fantastic fun to be with.

"He would have wanted to be there when the Saints get promotion to the Premier League.
