Most of their leaders have come from Moscow! I would guess it's the same with many of the soldiers!

Yes, they are tourists from Russia, who happened to pick up their weaponry in local groceries and supermarkets.

youre determined that everything is Russias fault.
So, all this started, when Russians, disguised as East Ukrainians slipped across the border in order to snatch East Ukraine away from the State of Ukraine? Why?

I dont know enough about them Martin, but what I do know, is that the people of the Eastern Ukraine, have traditionally spoken Russian. They have traditionally looked towards Russia.
Why do you think Russia wants to commit war for Eastern Ukraine?

oh, and any more news on the two jet fighters that you assured NSC yesterday were shot down from sites in Russia?

They want to annex Eastern Ukraine like they did Crimea, ultimately they want the whole of Ukraine

Ok, yes we chat all the time.

This was posted earlier in the thread about the four leaders of the rebels inside Ukraine

As for kievs calling for support against "Rebels and their Russian support".... do you realise that EVERY SINGLE REBEL LEADER IS A RUSSIAN CITIZEN/RUSSIAN MILITARY OFFICER...... NOT UKRAINIAN.......RUSSIAN.

Alexandr Boradai - Self proclaimed PM - Russian Citizen, from Moscow former investment banker

Pavel Gubarev - Self proclaimed governor, Russian citizen, from Moscow former kids entertainer

Igor Girkin (Strelkov) - Military commander - Russian Citizen, Active Russian Military intelligence officer from Moscow, worked previously in Crimea without insignia, and Syria, Bosnia with russian insignia

Igor Besler - Strelkovs right hand man, deputy commander (who admitted on wiretap to shooting down aircraft), born in Simferopol, Crimea, but is a Russian citizen and served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Russian army.

so, people from the crimea are Russian citizens as well?
....thats sort of how it works in the area Martin, as you well know......its not that long ago, that it was all USSR...so the liklihood of people being born in other parts of the country is fairly likely.

Any news on the two fighters you assured NSC were shot down from Russian territory yesterday...personally, I would have thought there would be more about that sort of thing in the news.

Vladimir Putin: The rebuilding of ‘Soviet’ Russia

The world was stunned when Russia invaded Crimea, but should it have been? Author and journalist Oliver Bullough says President Vladimir Putin never kept secret his intention to restore Russian power - what's less clear, he says, is how long the country's rise can continue......

COMMENT: Not even MH17 will stop Putin's goal of new Soviet Union

THE tragedy of MH17 will do nothing to stop Putin in his plans to re-establish a new Soviet Union. This was a tragic accident for him but his ambitions extend beyond Ukraine and this will not stop that.......

yes my wife and all my in law are in that category, and categorically they can see events for what they are. My father in law is a proud ex soviet army vet, who misses the soviet union days, speaks russian, but does not want to come under Putins rule. Putin is not interested in Russian speakers or Eastern Ukrainians, he is hell bent on russian expansionism and hell bent on preventing little old subservient ukraine from moving out of his control towards the west.

You'd be suprised that there are no outlets where guns can be bought in Ukraine, but suddenly all of these rebels, who have control of a border crossing have them. Russian citizens fighting in ukraine is a FACT, some military officers, others like the hordes of Russian cossaks coming across the border as general tourists before it all kicked off and then linking up with the DNR military commanders. the DNR have 1 recruiting office and its in Moscow, yes there are some locals who fight and some local support, but really every family member and friend i know there all wants it to stop and doesn't support the DNR, any volunteer is paid double what you can earn in a factory for as long as they remain alive..... did you know they did a general amnesty of all prisons in their controlled areas, if a prisoner fights for the DNR?

my wifes best friend Marina, was on a bus around 2 weeks ago from Donetsk to Mariupol that was stopped, and the DNR reps forced 3 young men off the bus to fight for the DNR at gunpoint, she said their was a couple in 30's or so with a young kid and they dtried to take the bloke, but the woman starting screaming hysterically that he was the only bread winner and they would starve without him so they let him go.

This isn't about being anti russia, i love russia, culture, am learning language have travelled across it and have russian friends this about what is really happening in one region of russian speaking east ukraine beyond what you read, its Putins dirty war on Ukraine.

Ukraine potentially joining NATO/EU?
Putin's grand vision of his "Eurasion union" soviet UNION PT 2 being scuppered by its second biggest potential economy ukraine moving westwards?
Risks to his government of Russian citizens seeing first hand Ukraine moving from corrupt autocracy to rule of law democracy?
Losing control over a subservient satellite?
Other?

who knows the reasons, but this is not a local ukrainian led popular uprising
