Back to where I was a week ago and I think moving in the right direction. More hopeful of hitting 7lbs by the end of the month.

Well done to everyone else for sticking with this. Sustainable change in eating habits is the name of the game for all of us.

Any change of eating habits is going to have difficult times to negotiate. It's the nature of the beast. I think it's really important to roll with them and try get back on track as soon as is feasible. You are not alone...!


This mid-month challenge time is going to be hard . We're two weeks in and although I'm doing OK with my addiction to over eating, I need to expand the variety of my food now to keep me firmly on track. Any healthy, appetising, easy to cook/create recipes, are very welcome from anyone.
I'd go for more, and more types of, veg with every meal. Almost any can be hacked up and roasted with spices. Kale, cabbages, cauli all amazing right now (try quartering a hispi or curly cabbage and roasting!!).

So my advice, load up on veg (bar the very carby roots).

Day 1: 86.5kg (13st 9lb); body fat 17.8%
Day 17: 84.25kg (13st 4lb); body fat 17.4%

A 2.25kg (5lb) loss since the day 1 weigh-in. But a huge 1.35kg (3lb) gain since yesterday’s weigh-in.

No, I didn’t binge myself stupid yesterday, I stayed on-track with the no snacking regime that I started in 1 Nov. So why such a difference? I had a hard 1 hour session on the turbo trainer yesterday morning and weighed myself immediately afterwards. So I reckon the difference is water - I sweated away the best part of a kilo and a half on the turbo yesterday morning.

At least I know what I’ll be doing immediately before the final weigh-in on 30 Nov 😉

I think it is definitely an issue with water retention.

Something that happens as well the older you get...ha ha.

It's a good reason for why many say to only weigh once a week as the fluctuations daily can be disappointing at times to morale.

I can't help but get on the scales first thing every morning, but I'm used to the fluctuations and try and not let it bother my ultimate goal.

There are a few who may get over the line of 7lbs on this coming Friday, 8 days ahead of schedule. You may well be one of them.

I’ve already been there - I was 8lb down at yesterday’s weigh-in. Maybe that’s a more interesting challenge - lose 7lb or more then put it all back on by the end of November 😂

Ha ha.....I did see your post re losing 8lbs before. I'm putting my faith in you, that you will get there again...and sustain it, before the end of the month.

It happens even after a week. I started writing down my weight on 26th Oct and have lost a couple of kg since then, but there have been a couple of days (10th & 14th Nov) where my weight has been higher than it was on the 1st. If I didn't know better that could be annoying. If you know you've changed your diet/exercise, the weight will come off.


I can't help but get on the scales first thing every morning, but I'm used to the fluctuations and try and not let it bother my ultimate goal.

I prefer to do it that way too.

Do the percentages your scales are giving match up with this:

17 - 18% isn't bad.
I would say that it’s probably about right.

Interestingly the % was a lot lower yesterday when I know I was dehydrated. I thought these scales worked by sending a small current and measuring bio-electrical impedance (essentially the body’s electrical resistance). The more water you have, the lower the impedance, which is indicative of a lower body fat % (as water is more readily stored in muscle). Therefore, if I was dehydrated, I’d expect my impedance to be higher and therefore get a higher body fat % reading. So maybe these scales aren’t measuring that way, or there’s some other algorithm being used.

Which scales do you have? As I mentioned earlier in the thread, my renpho scales (which tell you to put your feet on the metal pads) didn't use them at all. Instead it simply ran your weight through a calculation with your gender, age and height, and gave you their calculation.

If you got a family member to stand on the scales instead of you, and had them carry enough weight to make them match your weight, I bet the scales will say they're 17.x% body fat. Unless you actually have ones that work.
