Blimey, I didn't realise The Blue Orchids had reformed. The Flood was one of my favourite songs of the original post-punk era.

Last time I saw them live was at The Venue in London in 1981. The support band were a bunch of unknown Australian wannabes - The Birthday Party - with a certain weird-haired shrieking guy on vocals called Nick Cave. Wonder what became of him...

And in answer to your question, no, but I will be at Best Kept Secret in Tilburg - http://www.bestkeptsecret.nl

Went to see Electric Soft Parade last night, they were bloody brilliant. That was the most fun I have seen them have on stage in a long time. The new album is terrific too.

Age + musical taste = Great war stories. I would have loved to see the Birthday Party, unfortunately that was the year of my birth.

Yup, they have reformed and have played Brighton at least twice since. I have unfortunately missed them on both occassions but will, clashes permitting, be seeing them this weekend.

That looks a really decent festival, a good mix of overground & underground. What's the capacity? If can make a suggestion - see Swans if you can. Their current incarnation is on fire.

I will certainly be seeing Swans. They were first on my list of priorities.

Not sure what the capacity is - it's the first time they've held it. I've heard there's a dance event on the same site in August with a 50,000 capacity, but I suspect this will be somewhat less, being the first one (health & safety, ramp up, and all that...).

I'm off to the Deerhunter curated ATP at Camber Sands this weekend, been looking forward to it since it was announced. Still chalets available as I understand.

http://www.atpfestival.com/events/deerhunter.php

Anyone else going?

Me + 7.

Looking forward to seeing Deerhunter play Cryptograms and Microcastle, as well as The Breeders, No Age and Black Lips- otherwise I don't know?? Panda Bear and Dan Deacon are OK I guess. A bit dissapointed with the lineup and it's no real suprise it'll be the last summer ATP particularly with how badly its sold. It's a real shame because ATP has given me some of the best times but at least they'll still be doing the 'don't look back' events and their stages at Primavera and Pitchfork.

Ah well Deerhunter and The Breeders will make it worthwile.

In the last few weeks I've been to see Wytches at the Hope which was ****ing great, I hope they get big but to be honest I was more impressed by their support, Kill Moon, a brighton noise pop band. Last night I went to see The Fresh and Only's- not really my thing but grew into their gig when they started playing newer material.

I went to see Hugh Laurie and the Copper Bottom band last night. They were fantastic. The band were quite simply amazing, and and Gaby Moreno and Sister Jean McClain's vocals were extraordinary. As for Herman Matthews on drums - just an amazing professional. They all were.

By his own admission Hugh Laurie is no pro, but he held his own and it was great to see him with such an amazing band.

Off to see the Boss soon, Leonie Evans and the Baker Boys and Crowns. Hopefully by the end of all that the 'mare of an experience that was The Stone Roses will be a distant memory.

Would love to go, but I can't - can't think of many musical things I'd rather do than listen to Deerhunter run through those albums. Shame about the majority of the rest of the line-up. Have fantastic memories of the Bowlie Weekender 1999 (the lineup included AC Acoustics, Belle & Sebastian, Broadcast, Camera Obscura, Dean Wareham and Sean Eden of Luna, The Delgados, The Divine Comedy, The Flaming Lips, Vic Godard, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, The Ladybug Transistor, Looper, Mercury Rev, Mogwai, The Pastels, Sleater-Kinney, Snow Patrol, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Teenage Fanclub) and the 2000 event as well (Mogwai were superb, Sonic Youth were a shameful disappointment).

The Boss was, as usual, absolutely stunning.

Him and the E Street Band clearly still love what they do, even after so many years of doing it, and they combine that with genuine musical talent in every position on the stage. Even Jake Clemons, while he will never truly replace his Uncle if he tries for a million years, is filling into his role very nicely, both musically and personality-wise.

This is how Bruce closed the show on Saturday, after the band had finished for the night - 71000 fans and just him, a guitar and a harmonica:

By bizarre coincidence they just announced a few minutes ago that it has sold out. So I've just discovered that it's 15,000 per day capacity. Should be good - 50,000 for only 3 stages would have been too crowded.

I'm with you on your must sees, otherwise I'd reccomend you catch Steve Reich, Tom Tom Club (if this is scheduled as a late night thing it will be perfect), Atlas Sound, Rhys Chatham & Oneida, Pere Ubu, Robyn Hitchcock & Samara Lubelski. As with all ATP's I'd imagine we'll come away impressed by some stuff we hadn't heard of before. The bill does seem a little slim versus the others I've been to for the same price, which seems a bit off, I'd imagine its the legacy of the financial problems ATP have been in.

I've seen The Wytches a number of times now & I'm not sure I get the fuss. They're decent enough but there's some much better bands doing the rounds in Brighton at the moment. I have a horrible feeling that they're going to be sold as the answer to the fertile American garage rock scene & if that's the aim, they don't stand a chance.

"Digsaw" is a proper tune tough.

I'm going, tiny venue so no Wojtek leaves more room for my flailing arms.

worst promoted gig in history ...... I had no idea they were touring, let alone playing in Brighton for a tenner.

Still recovering from Download , Britain's heaviest and best festival by far.
Next Monday off to see Danzig at the Roundhouse. He is also playing support by doing a Misfits set prior to his headline slot .
Misfits last year at the Concorde without Glenn Danzig , this year Danzig singing Misfits songs without the Misfits .
