Am I right in thinking that the venue upstairs at Komedia no longer exists and all gigs are now downstairs? The downstairs venue if one of the worst I've ever been in - it's not very big but I genuinely couldn't see a thing. I'm not a tall guy, but the fact that they had TV screens showing the stage in such a small venue suggests it's a common problem - I've certainly never seen such a thing in any other venues of that size. I won't be going to any gigs there, unless they've improved it?

My worse live music experiences have been at Sticky Micks. If its a sell out and you dont arrive very early you wont be able to see a thing. The 'stage' appears to be lower than the standing area and if you are very tall your head will quite literally touch the ceiling. They put on some really decent stuff so its a shame.

Next live act for me is Martin Rossiter at Dome Studio 14th June.
Part of Source Magazine promotion.
Got a lot of tickets to get for stuff that is happening in Autumn around Brighton.

Oh god yeah. saw The Besnard Lakes there when it was Jam and it is also truly terrible. Komedia downstairs was worse for me though.

Anyone going to the Modest Mouse Concorde 2 gig needs to check their email. The show has been cancelled (as well as the whole European tour) as they are 'working on their new album'. Ergh. Really gutted about this as I doubt I'll ever get the chance to see them in a venue as small as Concorde 2 (it was the smallest venue on the UK bit of the tour by some way I believe), would have been a really good gig. Ah well, I can go and spend the £18 somewhere else today!

I'm seeing Liars, really excited. Last saw them 2 or 3 years ago supporting Scissorworld and they were really good. WIXIW is amazing so hoping for a great show - I really need to get that EP before I go.

I thought the Modest Mouse thing might just be a horrid rumour. That is BAD news, I've not seen them before and was really hoping this was my chance.

The Liars EP is excellent, there is one banger a la Brats from WIXIW & the other is a bit ballady with some super Tangerine Dream/ Harald Grosskopf analogue synth production. I'd be more than happy if they played both.

The Besnard Lakes show you refer to was spoilt by some seriously bad sound as I remember, they were excellent at Komedia the other week. Jam/SMFB is bad but as with any venue I've seen some good 'uns there. Ty Segall & Melt Bannana stick in my head.

My vote for worst gig venue in Brighton - Hanbury Ballrooms. Low stage/ awful sound/ bar where the queue never seems to go down/ surly door staff/ inconveniently placed toilets/ always oversold. The sound there ruined Besnard Lakes, Antlers & Zola Jesus before I finally gave up on the place. The Antlers gig was so frustrating I had a little cry & swore to never go back.

I love Melt Banana. Seen them at Pavillion and Concorde but experience at Jam/Sticky Micks was awful. Not due to the sound which was as loud as it needed to be but the fact that you could not see anything. They are pretty visual and not being able to see the lead singer was a real downer.

We got A LOT of promising new stuff from Liars last night, I think they only played 4 maybe 5 that have been released. Broken Witch was predictably great though. Cracking gig though.

I have got tickets for Mount Kimbie at Concorde in November. Not the normal type of music I like but got the new album and have been enjoying it a lot.

**** Buttons are playing Concorde 2 as well. Really like their stuff, but not sure how interesting they are live. I've seen them a couple of times at festivals and was impressed but not sure if a longer set and a more sedate, gig atmosphere, will really do much for their show.

Thought Liars last night were excellent. It's a shame that so much of it isn't truly live anymore (my heart did sink when I saw they had no instruments on stage), but they sounded amazing and are a really fantastic band. I was glad when he said they were playing new stuff as I thought I just didn't know WIXIW well enough. The ballady song at the end sounded really good (I like their slower stuff), the last song they played was AMAZING (what was it please?). Once someone behind me said the bloke on the right looked exactly like Gareth from The Office I couldn't take him seriously though!

**** Buttons is more about extreme volume rather then any show isn't it. I've not managed to catch them before, they played a stormer at Audio on the last album I'm reliably informed.

I was a bit drunk last night so can't remember the make up of the setlist but unless it was a brand new one it must have either been
