I must add my congratulations to Mr Corbyn.Sorry Greens I am changing my vote.
Just read his article for the guardian online.Could not disagree with a word even if
it was a little short in detail.
This leaves me with a conundrum.iI am an old tired cynic by age work and inclination.
this bloody man may force me out of my comfy chair and into joining in .

I think a lot of Greens voters will be, now the Greens are no longer the only voting choice for those with a social conscience. Caroline Lucas hasn't been slow in coming forward to welcome Corbyn's election as a progressive move for politics. Time for a formal Labour-Greens Alliance? Or should Lucas just jump ship to a renewed Labour party whose leader shares many of her own views, and is WAY more impressive than that Aussie DAFT Bint embarrassment of a leader of her own party?

A great idea, and she'd be brilliant for the party, but can't see it.

This sort of nonsense is exactly what Corbyn stands against. If the Tories continue, and Corbyn carries on stating he's not interested in this sort of politics, I wonder who will be the ultimate beneficiary?

I could understand the Tories doing this in the run up to an election, but can they really bang the same drum for the best part of five years?

He is a socialist, a man who believes in the state controlling your life. That is the reverse of liberal.

It's the reverse of classical liberalism, but todays liberals are a new breed of contradiction.

A classical liberal would call me a liberal too. Today's "liberals" call me a fascist racist sexist homophobe with shares in an oil company and a big bank.

10,000 people have signed up for labour since yesterdays election.

Caroline and JC are very good friends and associates, I am sure this will continue, I have been a Trade Unionist and Green for years so this is an interesting new development to be watched.

Caroline has an 8,000 majority, it would depend on who Labour could put up against here in a ward that is more radical that the main stream of politics.

How about Caroline getting a cabinet position and a some form of pact being formed under JC.

I agree; if they're going to do this then the election run in is the time.

I don't agree with political mudslinging and some Tories also seem to agree it might not work in the current environment

"We will have to beat him with clear intellectual arguments, not personal abuse” says Alan Duncan, a former party vice-chairman.

Paul Goodman, a former Tory MP and now editor of ConservativeHome, said that, if his party simply paints him as a leftwing lunatic, this could play into his hands. “Corbyn cannot simply be attacked personally; he must be confronted politically, too. Ideas matter, and his prospectus could gain traction unless counter-momentum is built up for the Conservative case.”

Former Tory MP, Iain Dale, said: “On a personal level, Jeremy Corbyn is one of the nicest people you will meet. Tory strategists would be well advised to lay off him and let voters make up their own minds as to whether he’s up to the job. Any attacks should be left until nearer the next election – and be based on policy, not personality.”

The former Conservative minister Nick Hurd tweeted: “Congrats to @jeremycorbyn on stunning victory. Caution my party against complacency. Cocky Tory always a bad look. #one nation.”

A marvellous idea. Might even increase her majority if voters know she can actually bring about some of her ideas as a government cabinet member.

The Conservative campaign against Corbyn already begins.

I personally find this level of propaganda campaign quite troubling - especially when you consider it has the backing of the majority of the press.

In democracy we should be having open, honest discussions about policies. Not.. this.

http://x.mail.conservatives.com/ats/msg.aspx?sg1=f93f29ddbe1cfcf88488aaf1073ba547

There are no lies is that link.

The hard left in the UK are renowned for their propaganda and attack mentality.
It’s a bit rich that its OK for them but somehow its not fair when the conservatives highlight what he has said.

Are you going to moan for the next five years every time you see his vision attacked? Many people see his vision and policies as wrong and negative, highlighting this is democracy working, you thinking its troubling and hope it stops is the opposite.

I think this may be the ultimate result, and like you I hope so. I know and am politically active with a number of greens in Haringey. The differences between them and people with an independent non aligned socialist perspective like myself is paper thin.
Having said that the Green party is a broader church than the Labour party. It ranges from green socialists like Caroline Lucas and my friends to the people that ran and messed up Brighton Council through to out and out green tories in the shire counties, who hold a conservative economic view but want to save the environment. Admittedly the majority veer to the left and certainly their vote reflects that. However an alliance will split them. If that happens the left wing majority will find little holding them back and a lot pushing them into much closer working with the labour party that is emerging.

I know!! I've had this strange feeling all day yesterday. When I thought about it, its the fear of the idea that I may have to fully join the Labour party and vote for them for the first time in 25 years!

I just rejoined the party today, having renounced membership as soon as B.Liar become co-conspirator to the illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq..

Welcome. I read another 10,000 joined yesterday alone. Interesting times.

Whilst NSC far from represents the electorate it is interesting to note posters like yourself, and a number of others, who are saying they're either rejoining the party and/or feeling re-engaged with politics and interested in listening to what Corbyn has to say.

As another tired old cynic, I woke up this morning with a mix of excitement and aprehension. I also resigned from the party some time ago (over Blair's mad plan to give state funding to any religious school; my objection was that making more schools 'religious' under state sanction would foster sectarianism, a la Ulster and parts of Scotland) rather than Iraq, which I though was justified by Saddam's 10 years of Blix-dodging (and did not require there to actually be any WMD, although Blair messed that one up by being too thick to realise that actual WMD (or pretending there were some) was either neccessary (or ethical, respectively)). The daft ****. And that was long before we found that some state funded Islamic schools were segregating the sexes and belittling other religions, while some state funded Christian schools (non C of E, mind) were teaching that evolution is a myth, FFS. Religion and education don't mix. If you want religion in your kids education, go and pay for it (as long as it doesn't promote hate and prejudice.... some hope of that, not).

Anyway, my emotions were summed up nicely when the long version of Soviet Snow by Shona Liang popped up on my hi fi (I said I was old) this morning. Wistful, nostalgic, optimistic, naive, hopeful and apprehensive. But better than bored, cynical, resigned to increasing apathy especially among the non voting yoof of today, and one eye on retirement an death. One eye on the winter, indeed. Hopefully a different kind of discontent.

Its a great track, by the way - what a voice!

Interesting indeed, another 5 years of you convinced the next Government will be a Labour one, the only time in the last 30 years Labour have been able to promote themselves as credible government in waiting was in 1997 as a centralist party!

Just feels so damn good to have some Old Labour values to believe in again finally, rather than be faced with a line-up of ToryLite Blue Peter presenters. Corbyn might well crash and burn. There's certainly a massive Tory press gathering out to get him earlydoors. Pretty large New Labour whisperings also. But at least he will give it a real good go, same as Syriza did in Greece. And he'll win a shitload of points over Cameron in the Commons just by calmly, honestly and eloquently speaking up on behalf of those currently being bullied on the sharp end of the Tory austerity measures. Who knows, maybe the odd fully-deserving banker will have the shit kicked out of them in th ecourts. Or maybe the odd multi-national will be forced to pay a bit of tax. This time around, things CAN only get better.
