Owusu has gone

A stop gap player wbo wanted a contract that was longer tha we were prepared to offer him, not a great loss.

Loft has gone

Not a great loss either, he wasn't quite good enough.

We havent signed anyone, when other teams have
Murray wants out, Lynch wants out
We still have Hawkins on our books
Season ticket prices didnt fall, when other teams have
Students over 21 have to pay full whack for a season ticket

We haven't but so what ? The majority of other teams in the league haven't either. Murray wants out ? Well he wanted away last summer too and remember, both Leeds and Carlisle and probably Swindon are going to lose their main strikers and I doubt that they're alone. Lynch has been wanting to go since last season but unless we get the price we want for both that won't happen. Hawkins was signed by Adams, says it all or have you forgotten some of his other less than brilliant signings ? Show me a manager who hasn't got it wrong from time to time. Show me a club in this league that's lowered it's prices and as far as students are concerned, how much do they contribute to our coffers anyway ?

Pretty much agree with all of that. In addition I wouldn't have expected hawkins to have gone anywhere as he's still under contract.

I think the fact Slade was not first choice is irrelevant now, we also have a new chairman so we don't know how triggerhappy he will be. I also don't think our fans are that bad, controversial I know. But that's not really the point I was making. It was about the "shocker of a summer" and "whiff of discontent". Both are patent nonsense.

I totally agree that shocker of summer is nonsense. I don't hold that "whiff of discontent" is - there have been several threads on NSC this summer bemoaning the state of the club. I don't see what's to be gained by denying their existence.

As for our fans...there was a poll on NSC asking "Slade: In or Out?" within a month of him getting the job -although at least there was a majority in his favour. And don't forget that McGhee, an excellent manager, was hounded out by a section of the fans.

I should stress BTW, that I personally am not moaning about the state of the club nor want Slade out. In fact, my devoutest wish is that a manager is given a decent run and a chance to build a team but there's no getting away from the fact that we have a particularly fickle bunch of fans and as such it's legitimate question to ask. And most arguments against it seem to be ad hominem ones rather than accepting that there is a section of the BHA fanbase that wants instant success.

BALLS.

There was no way on God's earth Bloom could have sacked Slade after he kept us up. There w0uld have been a riot and Bloom would have lost all credibility. He reluctantly had to give him a contract but he will not be bank rolling Slade. He will save that until he gets the man he wants.

The stupidity on here astounds me sometimes.

You're talking about a man who has just chucked £93 Million into the club. If he wanted somebody else in charge I think he would have made that decision without hesitation-don't you? Especially if, as you claim, he didn't want Slade in charge in the first place.

In your world we have a new Chairman who has saved the club and its new stadium by investing 93 MILLION but hired Slade so he wouldn't lose credibility. AND is now deliberately holding back funds so he fails so he can bring in a manager he wants in a few months-costing the club another couple of hundred thousand to buy up Slade's contract.

You're right-it all makes sense.

In fairness, a lot of those polls were started as a joke, commentin gon the regularity with which they came out after every loss under Adams.

If he was excellent, would we have been relegated, bottom of the pile? Would we be mid-table in a lower division? Would he take over a team that the previous manager left top of the table and require the play offs to gain promotion?

You can argue he didn't get the funding for the team, but that's where being an excellent manager comes in. And DK and the board stood up to the fans in the summer, they could have done the same in October.

Yeah, he's now a scottish premier league manager, but so is tony mowbry, and Mowbry is in charge of one of the top scottish teams, where was he last year?

Surely saying in the Championship without spending money the first time shows he may have been a half decent manager? The fact we then had the backbone of the squad sold without any money for replacements doesn't exactly help you progress. We were f***ed come the time we were relegated into League 1, the squad needed a total overhall and we didn't have the funds to do it.

I don't mean he isn't capable, but I never took to him, and certainly don't see him as excellent.

His man management, seemed to me, to be lacking, he seemed to fall out with a lot of our better players, failed to get the best out of Knight the way Coppell did etc. Perhaps it was because he followed Coppell, but he never seemed very excellent to me.

As for staying up, perhaps it shows him to be good, or perhaps we were just fortunate to have three teams that were that much worse than us that year.

Acker79 I'm sure I remember you saying at some point that you hadn't really followed Brighton much in the last 5 or so years and had only been to a few games each season

Slade may not have been first choice and many including myself had reservations about him but he won over the fans and probably many other people at the club including Bloom i should imagine with his brilliant enthusiasm and management style, and obviously the fact that he kept us up!!
Calling it a shocking summer at the moment is bollocks.......if we still havnt signed some quality players in 4 weeks then ill start to worry......as it is i trust Slade to do the right thing. I would really hope the club has some stability now and Slade is given the chance to bulid a good squad and get us to the championship for Falmer............i would be happy this year for a mid table season, as long as we are moving in the right direction......anything more would be a bonus!! :albion2:

You will all notice, that i have clearly accepted that it has only been shocking SO FAR, and that there is plenty of time for this to change. Yet for some reason, this is seemingly being used as reason for why i'm a negative tosser. If anyone genuinely thinks that a summer where the only good bit of playing side news is hart signing a contract is a good one, then they are clearly clueless. But i expect they are just after an excuse to get off on slagging me off. Sad.

I think you're mistaking me with someone else. I've been following the albion since the late 80s.

I don't believe it would negate my opinion of MM if I had only been watching them for 5 years, I don't need to have seen albiuon under jimmy case or liam brady or barry lloyd to form an opinion of Mcghee.

My last season ticket year was the year mcghee took us down.

There's many reasons why many people think your a negative tosser not just that one.

You must have an extremely low, or possibly non-existent tolerance threshold then.

It's not even the time of the (close) season for half the things you're on about, and you still think you can justify the phrase 'shocking'.

WW has said NOTHING wrong and the slagging off and abuse of him is deporable. You all need to take a long hard look in the mirror imo.

He raised some valid points.

This is a forum to debate views.

Why the witch hunt against WW.

NSC at its worst imo.
