UPDATE!

We've had loads of nominations but not too many being seconded.

So far we have:

IN
Polar Bear (reigning champ)
Crocodile(2007beaten finalist)
Honey Badger(charismatic peoples champ-although knocked out in the quaters last time round)
Hippo(vanquished the honey badger in 2007)
Buffalo(can't remember how it did last time round, so probably not so well. Maybe it's been in training)
Cockroach(did didly last time but is back for more)
Bull Shark(several sharks have been nominated but this is the only one-as far as ican tell-that's been seconded)
Portuguese man-o-war(the jellyfish is making it's debut. An unknown package)
Weaver Fish(a surprise entrant making it's debut)
Mosquito(I think it got knocked out first round last time but he's back again)
Snake(type not yet decided but plenty of votes for team snake)
Ants(same as snakes...contender tbc)
Wolverine(popular honeybadger baiter is IN, although it took longer than expected to get it's second. A sign that it might struggle?)
Mongoose(another newbie to spice up the field)

Then we have a few that have kind of been seconded:
Cats:two nominations so should be in, I'm just a little dubious that cats really belong in a worlds hardest creature contest...

Gorilla: technically two votes although I'm not sure Nibble was being entirely serious with his nomination of the rare glory hole gorilla...

Frogs:eek:ne vote for the poisonous tree frog and one picture of a frog(dunno what kind of frog though) so frogs are IN but again need to work out which one.

Nominated but not seconded
Wolverine
The Orca
tiger shark
Great White Shark
Black Bear
Brown Bear
Kangaroo
Japanese Giant Hornet
Collossal Squid
Baboon
Sea Snake
Swan
Scorpion
Komodo Dragon
Stingray
Tas Devil
Wombat
Bird Eating Spider
Hyena
Phillipine Eagle
Man
Tiger
The Viagra beetle(?!)
Lion
Seagull
African Bull Elephant
Dog

So it's now up to the good animal loving folk of NSC to get seconding and putting forward any late nominees. The tournament proper is sure to start sometime soon.

I:ve added new nominations and moved up those that have been seconded.

As it stands there are fourteen animals that have made it through to the group stages.

Land
Polar Bear
Honeybadger
Wolverine
Ants
Snake
Cockroach
Buffalo
Hippo(should it be water?)
Mongoose

Water
Portugues man-o-war
Bull Shark
Crocodile
weaver Fish

Air
Mosquito

Keep the nominations and secondments(?) coming!

The Pistol Shrimp!

This sea creature, also known as the Clint Eastwood of the shrimp world, blasts bubbles at 100km/h with a temperature comparable to that of the sun.

I will second the Hornet mentioned right at the start, as more AIR creatures are needed and Hornets are flipping scary.

Also second the BIRD EATING SPIDER. If anyone can confirm what type of Spider that is exactly. Eats Birds. Mental.

at a wild guess maybe it's called...ermmm.....the bird eating spider?

Was a slow day at the "animal naming" department then.

I'm sure it wouldn't like to be pigeon (haha geddit?) holed like that, I'm sure it does more than just eat birds.

Whilst they are all, hopefully, groups of death it looks like the Water group is shaping up to be a real tough bastard group. The air group is looking a bit poofy to me...

Top post

I think you are talking about the...........

"The goliath bird eating spider (also called the birdeater) (Theraphosa blondi) is an arachnid belonging to the tarantula family and is the largest spider in the world. The spider was named by explorers from the Victorian era, who witnessed one eating a hummingbird and reported the sighting to the Western world."

do you think the groups should all be equal in size? there's no way we'll get as many AIR BEASTS as land/sea, so do you think it might be worth splitting both land AND sea in two to make it a bit easier?

otherwise i feel that a fair few HEAVYWEIGHTS could fall at the first hurdle in the SEA group

Meet this nasty bastard of a bird...ladies and gents...

The Cassowarie

55047319.JPG

The third largest bird in the world and has to be said, a right GIT when it wants to be! Cassowaries, are endangered, are large, flightless birds that live in the rainforests, woodlands and swamps of Australia.

Cassowaries are unpredictable, aggressive and are known to kick up their large, clawed feet. Their kicks are capable of breaking bones, and their claws have been likened to daggers.

The guiness book of records likens these bad boys to be the most dangerous bird!! The message is.....KEEP BACK

I'm an advocate of having four groups made up of memebers of each of the regional groups-for example: Two land, two sea, one air-with the two with the most votes progressingf to the semi's. You might get a few heavyweights knocked out but this is the world's hardest creature, shit happens.

Possible to amend the above so that "Bird Eating Spider" reads "Goliath Bird Eating Spider"

Thanks
