I'm an advocate of having four groups made up of memebers of each of the regional groups-for example: Two land, two sea, one air-with the two with the most votes progressingf to the semi's. You might get a few heavyweights knocked out but this is the world's hardest creature, shit happens.

yes in hindsight i'd agree, there's no point over complicating things like the rugby league world cup

turienzo's lovechild

Is it to late to nominate the Horse-fly for the "Air" section?

"The bite from a larger specimen is extremely painful, especially considering the light, agile, and airborne nature of the fly. Unlike insects which surreptitiously puncture the skin with needle-like organs, horse flies have mandibles like tiny serrated scimitars, which they use to rip and/or slice flesh apart. This causes the blood to seep out as the horsefly licks it up. They may even carve a chunk completely out of the victim, to be digested at leisure.

The horsefly's modus operandi is less secretive than that of its mosquito counterparts, although it still aims to escape before pain signals reach their mark's sphere of awareness. Moreover, the pain of a horsefly bite may mean that the victim is more concerned with assessing and repairing the wound, than finding and swatting the interloper."

Sorry but the Polar Bear (as winner last year) has already taken the Bear nomination.

Plus Polar Bears are AWESOME.

Forget gentle Ben or the "Polar Bear", its a solitary animal and therefore not sure how it can be classed as the most dangerous bear? ? However, when a Grizzly bear rears on its hind legs you know its brown underpants time.

Grizzly bears have a fearsome reputation, you are statistically more likely to survive a bear attack than to perish, but that's small consolation to those who are faced with a bristling bear.

An estimated 5-10 fatalities a year, unless you are a seal or a fish...how does this body count compare to the Polar Bear?

Hangs out in: North America, Canada, North Pole, Russia and isolated pockets around the world.

Method of Attack: There are many different sub-species of bear and not all of them are vicious. However, the polar, black and grizzly varieties are deadliest. Bears will trample, maul and generally savage their prey until they're frightened off or finish the job; and will attack for a variety of reasons, hunger being one. You should always keep food well away from your camp.

Useful avoidance techniques: If you are faced with an angry Grizzly bear (categorised by snorting, false bluffs, ground beating, etc), slowly back away from the bear, watching it all the while. DO NOT turn and run. If it continues to act aggressively, you should respond in kind by shouting and throwing sticks and stones while continuing to back away. If a bear is upon you, fight back as you will stand a better chance of survival than if you play dead.

You certainly can. I'm going to second the vulture because as turienzo's lovechild has rightly pointed out we need more airbourne bastardo's.

I was at the Alpenzoo in Innsbruck earlier this year, it had a huge golden headed vulture giagantic bird, wing span of 3m, it looked the business.

But we were told it was actually a scavenger. It was a carrion bird?

So are vultures really that hard.

To be
honest I wouldn't go into a telephone box with it.
