sheepcote valley is to become a permanent traveller site, don't worry they will have to pay council tax and there will be a site manager appointed to make sure things run smoothly :lolol:

Good. Getting rid of the obligation on local authorities to provide sites is what has caused much of the friction between settled communities and travellers/Romanies.

Glad to see a former Council candidate supporting this.

no ,them robbing anything thats not nailed down and leaving places like a complete shithole has caused much of the friction between the settled and "romany/traveller" communities.

Whilst not blatantly racist in content the title of this thread appears to me to be attempting to incite negative comment towards ethnic minorities. I am surprised it is permitted under our new enlightened regime?

I wasn't aware that the government had done away with this obligation - in fact, I thought that the reason the council was doing this was because it had to.

You mean that a Conservative council is acting out of pure altruism? Blimey, it really has changed

Good news. Now we need more assistance for the community in other ways - for instance, greater assistance with education, making it easier to obtain school places, less bureaucracy in moving from school to school, and assistance for those who wish to educate their children within the community rather than at school.

why do they need another one anyway, there is a traveller site just north east of the A23/A27 roundabout which never looks half filled ...

Is this one closing or are they just adding another one for the SAKE of it ???

The councils no longer have to provide these sites. A number are currently doing so because they have successfully applied for government funding for this purpose.

there were alot of travelers at the Brighton end of Dictchling Beacon road last night.

One of the main reasons that Brighton attracts a large number of travellers is, of course, that the people of Brighton spend a lot of money on services that travellers provide. It's an economic thing. If you don't want travellers, don't pay them to do work or provide services. If you pay them to do work, you'll have to accept the fact that they will be living in your city.

At least the council is now starting to manage the situation.
