no ,them robbing anything thats not nailed down and leaving places like a complete shithole has caused much of the friction between the settled and "romany/traveller" communities.

I think I have now identified you as Alf Garnett, do I win a fiver?

It's the f***ing truth for christ sake.

If everything's so hunky-dory with these parasites, why don't all these sandal wearing do-gooders invite them onto their land, let them stay in their houses etc etc and see how you like it.

Coventry council built nice bits of concrete around our parks to stop them. Would be interesting to have them back see how they got on with the africans

You don't have to be Alf Garnett or to be somewhere to the right of Genghis Khan to be anti-traveller. The fact of the matter is that they contribute ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to society. In a minority of cases they do basic jobs and pay tax, but much more frequently they just free-load and treat their surroundings with utter contempt.

According to Ed, the employers & consumers of Brighton & Hove seem grateful for their presence.

I can no more name three householders who use the services of travellers than I can name three householders who buy wine from the off-licence half-way up Preston Drove.

I get my information on this topic from people I know who work with traveller families in the city.

well how about weighing up the positive and negative aspects of the traveller community and basing your opinion accordingly, rather than simply looking at one dubious way in which they benefit our economy and society.

Ugly girls do look fitter when you squint. Open your eyes.

Bah Im going to bed

butchy seems to have got the idea that, by saying that one of the reasons that Brighton has such a large number of travellers is that householders in Brighton give them lots of work, I am making some sort of statement about travellers benefiting the local economy.

I'm not saying that this is beneficial to the wider local economy in any way. It may just as easily be damaging the local economy. The beneficiaries are the travellers.

What I am saying is that the willingness of local householders to give work to travellers is one of the factors that attracts travellers to Brighton. If Brightonians are attracting travellers to Brighton, they cannot at the same time be demanding that they leave because they "aren't wanted".

Since it's possible to buy land, yet almost impossible to build anything on it in rural Sussex, I wouldn't particularly mind becoming a gypo myself.

You can bring in a nice, and quite decent sized house - usually in two halfs so it can by brought in on wheels - and clamp it together once on your land. Presto, a house without foundations, but removable and replaceable, and on lovely rural land - far away from scummy neighbourhoods, council estate chavs and toothless multi-father single mothers.

Was there any need for such unpleasantness jevs?

This is a site filled with nice, decent people, making jovial banter with understanding and regard for each other, there's really no NEED for that sort of thing. (said in best Watch With Mother voice)

Now f*** off and blither bubbles on the soon-to-be Championship 'hammers' chatsite - if your chirpy cocknee chappies can negotiate a keyboard to such an extent yer sad bastard.
