And if we're not in the running to sign players with Austin-like price tags then I reckon our no. 1 target in Jan should be Chris Wood - him and Hoskins would do the business and send us up with the other quality we've got.

I truly believe that we are that close to being a promotion team!

If we're not making a profit with 25k average attendances and pretty high ticket prices and low-ish wages, how much of a loss are the likes of Cardiff making (on the basis they pay higher wages). I find it hard to believe we don't make a profit, I'm assuming your adding something funky into the profit calculation such as loan repayments to Bloom which means we won't make a profit until it's paid off.

Do tell..

Heard we needed to have gates of 16k to break even. 25k crowds plus record sales of pies and booze. we must be making a killing.

I still want to know who is responsible for coaching our strikers??? You can see Poyet/Oatway influence in the midfielder's and tanno influence on the defence but do they know how to get the best from our strikers?

I would suggest NO, getting a influential ex proven scorer to coach our boys might be a good idea.

these players havent got it at this stage of their careers, they'll never have it.

He was great.

Without over-reacting, he strongly indicated that the goal finishing (lack of) issue, has now come to a head.

And that the squad quality must move up a level, to be able to incentivise Bruno to stay.

I see a quality finisher joining the club in January. 5 months too late, but better late than never.

Think this has been so obvious for a long time now, lets hope it happens. Every other team in the Championship seem to have physical presence up front.

Until then, let's hope Hoskins and Dobbie can step up.

I have no doubt they will both "step up" however in order to do this Gus has to play them and that may mean the bench for CMS and Barnes and I still don't think that'll happen

I get your point but i feel the midfielder's and defenders are getting the right coaching but are the Strikers??? surely it would be a cheaper option to get a striker/coach to get the best out of our front boys and it would be a good long term investment for a premier league set up.

i still go back to what i said mouldy, if these guys cannot understand where to be or have the neccessary instinct like a decent fox in the box, then they are never gonna have it........ but having said that, they do find themselves in very good situations, especially CMS, but he jusy doesnt possess the quality required to score at will..

At what age do players stop learning then?

Name an industry that doesn't have training and updates to their worker's skills?

Of course they can learn from a professional attacking coach, working with what the manager wants from his strike force

More direct than me, but exactly my point.

I personally dont think CMS could be any better than he presently is no matter how much "professional coaching" he gets.

You are right if we had a decent striker we would walk this division but we don`t so we will not

Do you think it is more the managers fault that a player does not tap in from 3 yards or the professional footballer on thousands of pounds that misses?

I was thinking about this today

Why can't any of our strikers notch from 3/4 yards?

I then thought about our pre-match warm-up routine

Charlie Oatway ends up rolling the ball for our forwards to have a touch, then shoot, but from about twelve yards!

At no point are there any one-on-ones v. the keeper from 3/4 yards, hence their inability to do it in a game situation

It's called attention to detail, and needs to be addressed

I've seen Barnes score from 3 or 4 yards several times, Leicester & Bristol City spring to mind, likewise CMS against Pompey. I don't think the warm up on a match day is the only shooting practise they get, in fact having watched them train, I know it isn't.

I daresay they do get shooting practice in training, but I reckon four or five goes one-on-one with a keeper from close range, as part of the warm-up wouldn't be a bad thing. At least it would be fresh in their mind during the actual game

Immature comment from Gus & sums up his pathetic, lackadaisical approach to penalty taking, with a 'let the players choose' attitude as if it ranks in importance with ordering the post match pizza.

It was plain to see when the penalty was awarded the players were discussing who was taking it . I would have thought that this would already have been settled in the pre match talk .

On one hand I agree with what you are saying, on the other hand I feel pretty confident that I could have tucked away the Barnes penalty follow up and several of the other chances too.
