Gus does have to shoulder some of the blame. It's all very well saying he can't do nothing about this and that and players missing headers and tap in's. Well i'm sorry Gus, but your the one that signed them all and have signed god knows how many players without bringing in a decent striker for god knows how long.

We should have been at least 4-0 up by then, not Gus' fault that players are not putting the ball in the net. I also think that 99% of managers in the football league would do the same whilst defending a 1-0 lead.

Of course it is Gus's fault. He picks players who not only cant hit the target from 12 yards, they cant do it from 4 ! If he picked Hoskins or Dobbie instead of Barnes, he'd rectify the problem

He's got to stop the team sitting so deep after 70 odd minutes. It's crazy to invite teams onto us and not push up when we break. We should have one that game by 2 or 3 clear goals. Hopefully TB will resolve the issue in Jan

good post - True enough

We created so many chances again. CMS & Barnes showed that they could not convert these, so Gus should have brought on Hoskins & Dobbie mid- way through the 2nd

It's an improvement from sitting back after the first 15 mins in the 1st half

But he has brought in three strikers that I think most of thought considered to be decent

CMS
Hoskins
Dobbie

plus Buckley who can also play as a striker.

Oh look! A bottomless pit full of money. Oh look! Another bottomless pit full of strikers that could score 30 goals in the Championship in a season and yet not mind being a lone striker and uprooting their families to the South Coast and not playing in the Premiership, even as a sub.

I mean - *quotes Boxing Day thread* - HOW HARD CAN IT BE?

Perhaps he should address his own weaknesses as a manager, manifested today in taking off a striker, and replacing him with a defensive midfielder, thus putting the team on the back foot, and moving the majority of the play forty yards closer to our goal
Agree with this very much but it is what Gus does and it continually puts his teams under pressure. If he thinks that this is the way to go then he needs the players to do it.

They're good players. Buckley is outstanding.

But the predatory and ruthless striking of Austin, or someone similar, would make us the complete package.

Normally poor finishing is about 90 per cent responsible for us not getting the just desserts from a game.

But it wasn't as high as that today.

There were bad misses (obviously Barnes pen, and rebound was worse, and Orlandi in second half - who otherwise was superb IMHO).

But you also had incredible bad luck (woodwork three times) and an inspired goalkeeping display which I doubt we will see matched this season.

Brighton played really well today, and gutted as I am that AGAIN a win has not been the result, we all need to recognise that.

Gus does need to take some blame for not recruiting a quality striker much earlier, but I doubt they would have scored past Bogdan today either.

As he said afterwards, "What can I say to the players? There is not a manager in the world who would be upset with that performance. No other team in the Championship could have done that to Bolton."

Personally I would have done the American Football thing and sent Dobbie on to take the penalty.

I think you must be my ghost writer! I thought we played really well today.....no-one played badly.....no not even Barnsey. The goalie played a blinder and the woodwork did too. Another day we would have hit four and people on here would be raving about CMS's ten goals so far this season, Barnes has the balls to take pens and what a player Orlandi is, not forgetting Bruno, Kushanker, Buckers ect ect and we sold 26.5k tickets. Having said that Tuesday i would put CMS and Barnes on the bench with Dobbie and Hoskins starting!....carry on.

Bar the odd decision in a season, luck is not a big factor. Austin or Lambert just as an example, would be burying the chances the Albion are carving out.
Same problem for 14 months now.
Recruiment of strikers has to be the no.1 goal now.
