Goalscorer

Article in the Argus about our need for a goalscorer who can hit double figures. I'm a bit confused but I thought we were looking alright for next year.

Savage - 6 in 11 since he arrived, see no reason why he can't hit 15 plus next year.
Revell - First season and injury yet has still scored a fair amount of goals and looks like a decent player.
Robinson - Tailed off but has shown this year he has talent and will surely progress.
Gatting - Question mark but has shown at times he could do a job and has got some goals.

Admittedly a second season could be harder for some of them but if all these players develop they are now settled as members of the first team squad so surely we are alright in this department. Also we have Elder to push for a place.

Is the journo Mr Naylor?

Surely this sort of thing can wait til the season is over.
From memory Hammond is top scorer, and then the strikers are not far behind
Robinson the only one under performing in my opinion, only scored in 3 league games i think

Not sure about Robinson and Gatting. Fancy Savage and Revell will form a decent partnership though.

Is Naylor. He even uses the word urgently.

Does Naylor actually know anything about football?

Exactly. Gatting, Robinson and Elder seem like very decent back ups for a team in our position. Who know, Gargan might come through as well.

I still think we need a proven goal scorer over 28 years old - too many young players with potential up front and we will get times with them all misfiring like this season.

Gargan needs to bulk out if he is going to make it, and not really getting in the reserve team either

Indeed. If we can get a proven goal scorer on a free in the summer it would be great, but if not im not overly concerned.

Definately wouldn't argue with getting in someone who will improve the side but if we can't, as Da Man Clay said, I'm not to concerned. I think RB and CB are more of an issue.

I think if we can keep Lynch and Butters with Hinch coming back we are ok at CB. Right Back is more of a problem but I think we will get Whing.

Butters is getting on a bit, Lynch is the most likely to move on and Hinsh is so injury prone that CB does worry me. Hopefully Elphick will come through.

True, I think we will need to find a replacement for Butters next year. If Lynch goes we really will struggle though.

why do they have to be over 28? Owen is not even that old and wouldn't say he has a bad career so far. If they are good enough they are old enough

Isn't Savage the only forward to score in 2007. I'd say that is reason to worry for next season.

Revell has been out nealry all of this year, he has only just started to get back to fitness.

to pass on some knowledge and experience, as well as being at a physical peak - just means more consistency

put a 20 goal striker in the team on top of what we have and we would be in the play offs

sorry i don't agree (well the bit about a 20 goal striker is right) but how old is Billy Sharp? leading scorer in the league, Zamora is not 28 but seem to recall him gettting a few when he was here, same as Knight.

I think we desperately need a proven goalscorer. I'm still not convinced by Savage but he continues to surprise me and I hope he rams my doubts right back at me.

As for the others :

Revell 6 league goals in 33 games

Robinson also 6 in 33

Gatting 4 in 22

Hardly prolific any of them.

Hammond is top scorer with 8 in 37.

It is wrong to suggest we will make auto promo or the play-offs without a regular goalcorer... Naylor (t0sser) has made a good point for once...

But all them strikers are a work in progress. They should hopefully come on next year. Sometimes you have to stick with a youngster so they can develop and you can get the best of them.
