I'd agree with that. I think it's better to have 3 or 4 scoring fairly regularly than one proven striker. If that striker gets injured or sold (which is likely next January) then you're snookered (mixing the metaphors)

Jake, Gatts, Alex and Bas have all scored vital goals this season to secure us points and I think it's only a matter of time before the mighty Elder joins them, I'm not sure we need the big name player up front now because what we've got will get the goals between them.

A left back would have been essential as well.

? ???
mayo - left footed, playing there a lot
lynch - left footed, but not natural position, but has played there
rents - left footed, had 1at team experience there,
sonny cobbs - left footed, in my opinion, the next big one to come out the yoof academy
butters - left footed, could move there i suppose
el abd - right footed who has played there too (although not brilliantly)

Not sure we can afford not to go for a promotion bid.

Although there is a core of support that will watch whatever is served up, even that has retracted this season and with another season of nothingness, which to the outsider is what we have had this season, the support will drop more and so will revenue.

Ah were moving onto the midfielders now! Dean's had a bloody good season and some of his goals have been a joy to watch as has some of Coxy's,

If i've got one concern about lack of goals it's from our defenders! For some reason they've not been getting on the end of things this season which is unusual but there's still time,

Why do you follow Tottenham? They're not going to win the Prem but you still bother.

we cant afford to get promoted? What?? would the increase in gate receipts and tv revenue not help the club then.

The basis of the squad is there and Dick has said there will be some cash around in the summer so would appear they are going for promotion so obvioulsy don't agree.

He said there was a healthy playing budget. Not quite the same thing as having money to buy in the sort of player that people say we need.
Players in the Championship are on 8k to 10k a week. We can't compete with that.
So, if we go up and then come straight back down again does Wilkins get the sack?
I want to be in the top half and competitive next season which makes games exciting but unless we have a big cash injection then I don't want to be languishing around at the bottom of the Championship again.

Gargan needs to bulk out if he is going to make it, and not really getting in the reserve team either
As does Jake, who also needs to be braver in the tackle.

Way out west
If we can do deals to keep Baz and Bertie, plus bring back Whing then I don't think we will be far off a team that can push for the play-offs. Add in Hinsh and Reidy to the mix and it will be like having another two new players, continue to develop the younger players, some of whom should definitely improve further in their second season. Yes there are doubts over a number of players, particularly in the forward line, but we have strength in defence and the midfield is starting to gel nicely...I am more optimistic about next season, think we might surprise a few people.

As this season draws to a close we have achieved what I was hoping for, avoid relegation at all costs, stabilise and blood some of our home grown players. Yes the season has been a little up and down, we have ground out quite a few draws but provided a little cheer along the way, that on occasion we have put out a team with no less than 8 home grown players is testament to the fact that things are going well on that front.
