But all them strikers are a work in progress. They should hopefully come on next year. Sometimes you have to stick with a youngster so they can develop and you can get the best of them.

Not if, as DK has just suggested as he issued the ST renwal letters, the club is serious about promotion next season...

I was saying this on another thread, Savage and Revell together will not get the goals in my view to firea promotion attempt.

Promotion? To be honest I would be glad with doing well next year. Play offs would be fine by me. I think another season of bedding in youngsters and hopefully a year into getting the yes for Falmer would be the right time to go up.

I like Dick (very good) but rarely listen when he starts up with the we will this and we will that stuff. He can pander to the fans all he likes, I for one will be realistic.

Whing is not a bad shout, he is back in the reserves at Coventry since Davros took over and is out of contract in the summer.

Indeed, Virgo seems to have taken his place. He seemed to enjoy his time here and I hope Wilkins is keeping tabs.

How good is Elder?
Been out of the country for a few years now, but get back now and then for a couple of days. Last game i saw was this christmas vs Bournemouth. The one before that was Luton!

Isn't Savage the only forward to score in 2007. I'd say that is reason to worry for next season.

Did'nt Joe Gatting score the winner at chesterfield and score at Orient as well?

The problem is that there will be less and less bums on seats if we don't mount a serious challenge... that's real money being lost to the club... invest or suffer further losses next season, IMHO... and dare I say I told you so when the club failed to invest to keep us in the CCC...

True on the first point. The second point, given our recent financial losses and the amount that would have been needed to be spent to retain our place would have been impossible. I don't think we could muster the resources to buy minimum three or four Championship standard players that were needed.

I think we desperately need a proven goalscorer. I'm still not convinced by Savage but he continues to surprise me and I hope he rams my doubts right back at me.

As for the others :

Revell 6 league goals in 33 games

Robinson also 6 in 33

Gatting 4 in 22

Hardly prolific any of them.

Hammond is top scorer with 8 in 37.

not good enough , imperative we find a striker to solve this

Why? there's a lot more to come from the strikers we allready have.

I'd agree with that. I think it's better to have 3 or 4 scoring fairly regularly than one proven striker. If that striker gets injured or sold (which is likely next January) then you're snookered (mixing the metaphors)

We needed to play Kuipers, replace Charlie (Wise?) and sign a good target man on loan... hardly big money... compare that to the losses we have made as a result of relegation...

I would have thought we would have needed to spend a fair whack. A decent target man is not easy to come by and a Bertin type midfielder is not cheap, unless you strike it lucky - as we have done. A left back would have been essential as well.

Wrong! Almost all promoted clubs have a regular goalscorer... think back to our recent promotions - Bobby, Bobby, and that little sh1t, Leon...

But who said we are going for promotion? We can't afford to be promoted until we've got the stadium sorted out.
