You've not provided any evidence that an ID will do ANYTHING. It won't replace any current cards, it won't replace the passport. It'll just cause mass paranoia and hysteria, and create another way for the state to extract cash from the populous.

I am not saying you are gullible, Biscuit. You believe whatever you want to believe.

You, however, are saying that anyone who DOESN'T agree with you is a conspiracy theorist and is paranoid. I just don't think they are worth the cost and I don't want to pay for it.

:lolol: MYOB you do make me laugh.

Your spouting out the same old FLAWED argument. The fact is ID cards are the way forward. Problem is, anyone who agrees with me is being catagorised by your lot as 'gullable' and people who just drink up what the government is saying.

Why don't you go and write a book about how Blair is planning to take over the world or something. Everything else your typing implies a fondness towards the 'Fiction' genre.

Ok what benefit is there to having ID cards?

ID Cards are going to happen. It'll take a few years (but I'm sure will be under New Labour as the Tories are hardly making leaps and bounds in popularity are they.)

It's the way the world has become after 9/11. Minister's are demanding extra security, Labour have to been see as doing something. So by introducing an ID card, we won't suddenly be jumping back to second world war britian. Quite the opposite, we will be leaping forward into a new age of security, and protection for English citizens.

A friend of mine was in a meeting at the cabinet office. The chap in charge of ID cards said that despite it being optional, those who decide against having them will be so disadvantaged that they will have no choice but to get them.

My only other point about ID cards is that all the language seems to concern the danger of foreigners. The awful illegal immigrants who are a blight on our lives etc.
Why on earth should we be afraid? Our borders are rising all the time in this enforced climate of fear. It's shite and downright offensive.

It is not some big conspiracy just the current trend in political thinking on security.

.. and politicians know as much about security as I know about Turnip farming !

They must feel really safe in Parliment being protected by the Master of Arms ( an old senile bloke ) and his few mates who are allowed to carry swords.

Standard blinkered wibble.

Can you not give a reason that HASN'T come from a New Labour handbook?

You haven't given be any benefits? I've listed reasons why I don't think we should have them but you seem unable to put together a case for. You mention 9/11 and security. How is having an ID card going to prevent 9/11 and improve security. I have already pointed out that ID cards failed to stop the bombings in Madrid.

Why is it that anyone who agrees with an aspect of New Labour policy is straight away ganged up on and accused of being brainwashed and regurgiating New Labour propoganda?

Perhaps the person has just thought about it and happens to agree with them?

For people supposedly left wing there are a lot of people on here not keen on letting people have their own beliefs.

The best argument against them is Dick Knight's Mum's one about there being better way to spend resources. Spot on.

Err that is my argument too! Biscuit has been totally patronising in his posts and yet is unable to come up with reason for his beliefs!

please stop trying to take the higher ground Richie it's really not making you come across well.

Im not taking the higher ground at all. It just annoys me that anyone seen to agree with the government is automatically branded as brainwashed and considered and idiot.

That is how I would brand anyone who agrees with something and yet is unable to give any sort of sound reasoning behind their decision.

Like DKM says, if it cost no money to implement and were free then who would object?

The point is they will achieve nothing and are a smoke screen to the real issues that cause terrorism ini the first place. I would much rather see the billions used on schools, hospitals et al...

I think a lot of people would object even if it cost the government no money because they would argue that it is an invasion of privacy.

I would lable someone who consistantly picks holes in my posts a tit. Oh wait, that would mean you.

No. Just saying it seems a little sad and vindictive that you feel the need to criticise virtually every post I make.

I actually agree with you that the money could be better spent elsewhere, like on the NHS.
