*rolls up sleaves* right, I'm going to have to take you all on...

Computer error - wrong guy arrested...I'd stop watching so manu movies mate.

Spain attacked while ID issued. No way.. are you telling me that an introductory scheme was able to be bypassed by a group of highly organised determind terrorist?! Come on, that was one... of how many attempts? 10, 20, 100 even? You don't know the full picture so you cannot use that as an example.

Hair-brained scheme - staellites - cars - etc.. maybe national security is more important that car tax? - either way, an irrilvent comment.

Compulsory Passport thingy - Great idea.. its not like paper documents can be faked.. the ID cards are virtually full proof with retina indentification etc.

Me - gullable - government - evil - plot etc :lolol: I don't care what the wars was about. The fact is we got rid of one of the most cruel dictators. A man whoms persuction of other beliefs rivalled Hitlers..but thats beside the point. The fact is, wait for it... IM NOT STUPID..and I do take the things the government say with a pinch of salt. However, because I agree with them doesn't mean Ive been brainwashed. I love all the civil liberties types getting on their high horse.

I'm not against beacuse of civil liberties! The only area on that respect where I'm against it is if you ACCEDENTALLY have your name black balled somehow. Trust me as a person that develops software for a living there is no such thing as a fool proof system.

My argument is that it is a white elephant put out by the government in order to tackle terrerism. The case I mentioned in Spain IS RELEVENT as if PROVES that ID cards do no prevent it.

Your case for cards instead of paper is because it is harder to fake plastic?!?!?!? Tell that the the person that has been ripped off by on his credit card.

I don't agree with them because it will cost the tax payer billions and will achieve nothing! ala the car satellite tracking I was talking about.

I think the key idea here is that people suspect the Government of a big brother style conspiracy.

I do not think people should have to pay for them but what is that actual problem with them?

Not the civil rights crap but the actual 'having one in your wallet' way.

It is just all your other cards etc rolled into one.

You'll find you still need ALL your other cards

Like the way you need your card driving licence and the long form in the UK still (or did, not sure if its still the case).

It'll be an extra card, NOT a replacement.

I can accept why people would be against it beacuse of the huge cost to the tax payer to impliment it or the fact that people have to pay for it. But, I just think sometimes people find a conspiracy where there isnt one purely because they distrust the govnt.

Is there a conspiracy behind the £140m proposed for poor families and pensioners to subsidise their heating etc?

There is. Its called 'Socialist' Britain being embarrased by 'Capitalist' Ireland where pensioners and poor families get E12.90 a week, 29 weeks a year, for fuel allowance :lolol: :lolol: :lolol:

New Labour cannot win. If they actually do some good it is vote grabbing and if they did nothing then it would be turning their back on the poor and elderly.

I guess people will accuse them of helping out the poor and elderly so they stay alive and vote Labour. How dare New Labour!

I wasn't slagging off Labour for 'vote-grabbing' - I was slagging them off for being more capitalist and money-grabbing than Irelands current capitalist government - remember Labour are meant to be Socialists.

Labour were never properly socialist.

They flirted with the extreme left in the early 80s, having the manifesto drawn up by Benn et al meant that once they lost the election (which they were always going to do) it would have been lost on the terms of the far left, thus removing them from decision making within the party pretty much for good.

Labour were left of centre party and probably not even that these days.

Ever thought how much good Labour would do for this country if it was socialist? Answer is NOTHING because nobody would vote them in. So perhaps the most socialist thing Labour have done it stay clear of socialism because then they are diluting their own beliefs in order to get elected and ultimately help some people.

New Labour are saints.

If I was PM, I would introduce another ID card that you must pay £100 that shows the size of your penis. (Or Breasts if you are a lady) Don't ask why as you wouldn't understand, but trust me, it WILL reduce unwanted pregnancies.

Did I mention that you may money for this, and if you don't show it to a Policeman you get arrested? Ah well.

What do you mean you "don't really want one thank you very much"? What are you trying to hide? You paranoid, conspiracy theory, liberal wishy-washy hippy NUTTER!!!

The "if you have nothing to hide" arguement can be taken to the next level. Maybe the police should be given powers to randomly search any private property they like whenever they like ?

I'm sure most people wouldn't agree with that so why do you want them to be able to easily search your personal details. ?

By all means have an optional card but don;t make it compulsary. You don't HAVE to have a passport and you don't HAVE to have a drivers licence assuming you're willing not to travel or drive.

It's not necessarily about how this or the next Government would use ( or misuse ) the information it's about ALL future governments using it. You can bet your bottom dollar someone will misuse it - so we shouldn't make it easier for them.

Oh ... they can f*** off if they think I'm paying for one.

Now that would be really cool. Imagine a law-abiding citizen such as myself, wrongly accused of some heinous crime. Well if "they" could track me, then my innocence could be proven quite quickly. Excellent idea - bring it on....

Whatever. All I know is the insane mix of Socialism and Capitalism we have here has delivered shite health care but very good social welfare, and a constantly reducing national debt. Being able to afford private health insuance, I'm willing to live with this.

Wheter Ireland is Socialist or Capitalist would drive even the best team of economic analyisers insane.
