Fat B......d needs help

go walking. and do planks. sit ups are pretty useless unless you are ripped. its better to do cardio to burn fat off and an adominal stretch (plank) to help 'flatten' the fat. If you can't do that much cardio then you have to just eat less. do a calorie calculator Calorie Calculator to work out what you need to eat to lose weight. you CAN lose weight by not doing that much exercise however your feel more hungry as you'll need to eat less. I prefer eating more and just doing more exercise to stay lean.

Good post - and right about sit-ups. Not much point focusing on making the stomach muscles bigger if you don't have the REST of your muscles toned.
About the walking out-of-breath issue - STOP making excuses for why you can't do stuff, you MUST exercise. Repeat MUST. Take plenty of rests, and walk, and rest, and walk further, and rest etc. Get an OLDER dog, there are plenty at the shelter that will be a little less lively and perhaps in a similar condition to you!
Save one and it could well save you.

Oh - and don't CONSUME your food - eat slow and let your digestion tell you when it's been satiated. Finishing your plate before you know you are no longer hungry, will make you believe you haven't eaten enough - which may be how you got into trouble in the first place!

Cut out booze.
Cut down on red meat.
Get rid of pastry and the like.
Skimmed milk.
Don't have a heavy meal before bed.
Eat oily fish.
Only eat low fat cheese.
Cut down on bread/butter.
If you feel hungry, you might be bored or thirsty.
Go swimming.
Walk more (buy a pedometer).

Completely agree. Have done this (APART from the exercise bit) since January 4th. Have gone from 19 st 12lb to 16 st 10 lb. Also, NMH said to accept hunger, couldn't agree more, stick to 3 meals a day, no snacking in between, control the portions when you do eat and the weight comes off. 4 inches off my waist. 6 off my chest, am feeling a lot healthier now in preparation for my 2nd baby being born in 2 weeks!

I think the advice above is good.

But, don't do too much exercise straight away - build up to it. I used to work as a lifeguard, and you would not believe the amount of people that go too hard in the first week of trying to get fit and end up giving themselves a heart attack ("I used to be able to swim 1 mile in 30 minutes ten years ago... I should still be able to..."). The walking suggestion looks good to me, swimming is good exercise too, as long as you don't think you are Ian Thorpe.

best of luck

It is not necessarily how much you eat, but what eat. Go to your larder and look at it. Do not buy any more biscuits, Mars Bars/Kit Kats etc. crisps. Throw them out or give them to your grandkids and vow never to have them in your house again, eventually you will not miss them.

Go to your fruit bowl and next time make sure you have plenty of apples, grapes, oranges and I personally feel bananas are great for alleviating mid meal hunger pangs. At meals cut out chips and alike, eat pastas, salads etc. Look up on the net good low calorie foods for you, you really can have quite large portions of food (if you feel malnourished after meals) that is good for you.

Welldone Norris good effort. I was nearly that weight and have lost a lot in the same time.

Don't agree about having to be hungry or 3 meals a day. You should have Breakfast - snack mid morning ie almond/cashews no more than 10, lunch chicken/tuna salad or brown wrap, snack mid afternoon more nuts or bananna maybe, then dinner eg chicken veg.

Shouldn't get hungry and regular eating will keep your metabolism fired up.

Much as everyone else has said, more exercise and less calories. Give up beer because one pint on it's own is around 750 calories and a relatively short evening session will add up to the daily recommended adult intake on it's own. If you can't give up beer ( and who would want to ) then stick to halves, and drink no more than three in one session.

Instead of going to the local walk to one a mile away.

Eat fruit and veg instead of meat, chips and chocolate. Make sure you only eat at mealtimes and don't snack between them, only eat breakfast and a main meal ( can be luch or dinner ) but not both. Replace third meal with a healthy salad, or smoothies, or soup and a roll.

Walk, cycle, swim ( in fact swimming would be best of all because the bouyancy and water resistance will prevent injuries and strains for overweight people ). The only way ( other than surgery or liposuction ) to remove that excess unused fat is to burn it off ).

Only 750 calories if you include 2 packets of pork scratchings with your pint! (which is typically between 180 and 250 calories)

Cheers PB, and well done to you too! Yeah, where I came from with hunger was before I was a perennial snacker, not allowing myself to be hungry. My brain would literally go "you haven't eaten for an hour, therefore you must be hungry, go get a sausage roll from the vending machine". So now, I don't snack, as its better for me to cut the habit completely, than to transfer to a healthier version. Did a sport and exercise degree so know that keeping the metabolism going is good, however it just doesn't work in my situation.

You have an end point in sight? Considering my build, when I get to 15 stone I'm gonna be happy. The real trick is then to keep it off, that's when I'll have succeeded.

Drink a pint of ICE COLD water first thing in the morning. It gets the digestive system up and running IMMEDIATELY as it's shocked into action.

Eat SLOWLY and CHEW. It takes 20 mins for the brain to be told it's full so if you eat slowly you will be eating less EXCESS.

As said above, walk. It seems so SLOW but it really works.

Instead of milk and cereal have a little bit of yoghurt and fruit.

Don't let yourself get hungry. The moment you start starving yourself your body will cling onto the first thing it eats.

Use honey as a sweetner if ever needed.

RE: the exercise. The BEST thing if you can manage it is BURSTS. Walking up a hill with a pace but then down slowly is excellent as it's about raising and lowering your heart rate.

Chicken BREAST over other cuts also as it's much lower in fat.

My problem, and I am not trying to make excuses, is that I suffer with COPD so after a very short while whether it be walking from a bus stop, or the car or doing anything strenuous is that I am then out of breath and struggling.

Then the usual advice is to discuss it with your doctor. Don't kill yourself while trying to make yourself healthy.

DRINK WATER!

Cut out snacks, eat breakfast lunch and dinner but don't eat inbetween. This will mean your body hasa chance to burn off fat during the day.
Make a list of everything you eat in a typical day and only buy food that will be eaten at a mealtime.
exercise as much as you can, over the next 10-15 years you'll be able to do less and less so push yourself now and do whatever exercise is possible.
set yourself a reachable target of loosing for example a stone within the first month and weigh yourself daily, it will subconciously put added pressure on you andmake you think twice before eating anything.
Drink lots of water it will help deal with hunger and making your body process it will burn extra calories

I saw a programme on the tv a couple of months ago and they made one group of people eat a cooked meal and drink a glass of water whilst another group had exactly the same ingedients but made into a soup and the ones who had the soup felt fuller for longer even after a prolonged period of physical activty. I think they even scanned their stomachs afterwards to show that there was more food still in there. Could be a handy technique?
