Still think FH needs to be given the time to find his feet. He was chosen for his potential and having the desire to play the way our team is built for. It’s a long term project and there will be bumps along the way. People seem to forget RDZ suffered big defeats too.

It’s also a young team and although we spent a lot those fees represent young players potential rather than PL ready signings. They take time to bed in.

Not so keen on the Andy Naylor article as his conclusions seem quite knee jerk without much analysis. The Liam Tharme article is really worth reading though and looks at the way that we have changed how we play with specific stat and comparisons with other teams:

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6058239/2025/01/14/brighton-most-dribbles-issue-control/ Brighton have attempted the most dribbles in Europe – that isn’t a good thing.

In essence we are playing a much higher line than before and are far more direct in attacking with players running at defences but with a low success rate. This leaves us much more vulnerable to counterattacks and transitions. Our shot quality has dropped considerably too. We also have very rarely ever had the same starting XI each week.
Naturally I am an idiot, so I don't look at these things statistically but something I've noticed form the old fashioned eye test, is we don't seem to make as many entries into the box as under previous managers, which I think is linked to this? Also we've only had one penalty this season, it seems that we're not making as dangerous runs into the box which would lead to penalties. Very interesting analysis in the article I have to say.

Anyone here the author of the angry letter to The Argus?!

Made SOME good points, but cheer up about the gallows humour, miserable bastard. What else are you going to do, sit there and cry about it? Targeting Rutter as well, yeah like he was the problem and has been this season. Just seems a bit angry and overemotional, other than being a bit more logical about why he should be sacked.

Exactly. If a fan was around in 96/97 it was virtually the only way to survive.
Rochadale and Hull City away we’re particularly bad ones only relieved by some gallows humour amongst Albion fans.
I understand that the author was understandably angry though.

Agree on the gallows humour, what else are you supposed to do in that situation?

Rutter has arguably been our best player this season and definitely wasn't the worst on Saturday so not sure why he has picked on him.

Imagine the author had a lot of time on the coach on the way home to spend it writing that letter.

Cue PBOBE demanding a passenger list. The author should have gone to the Canal House and got shitfaced instead. Worked for me.

I’ll be honest, I think top managers may be slightly put off by our model. The squad RDZ inherited was far more appealing than the current group we have. We have a lot of raw potential, but it’s a squad full of prospects and maybe’s.
I’m not sure McKenna would have been much different to what we have now in terms of playing style.

Neither here nor there
I think it's interesting that there's been no suggestion of extending Fab's contract. Potter's four-year contract was extended by two years after just six months in the job.

Hurzeler has (I believe) a three-year contract and Tony doesn't seem interested in tying him down for longer than that at this stage.

Given that we have players to come back from injury, still have an interest in the FA Cup and an outside chance of European qualification, I doubt very much the club would pull the trigger at this stage even if they're concerned at recent events. We may be about to turn a corner. Who knows.

Come the summer, it could be a different matter, and we know the club will already have irons in the fire for a replacement. I suspect – but have no inside information to back it up – that a change will be made at the end of the season.

RDZ also inherited a team that was playing well, what he left was one that won just SIX of the last 24 matches, picking up only 22 points and seven defeats in the last 12 matches. Were were hideous from March onwards. I know RDZ had injuries but, if Fab isn't allowed that excuse, neither is RDZ.

I get buying prospects and selling for profit no problem with that although a prospect manager does not make much sense. The player needs to respect the coach and feed of his experience. Without FH having much experience I’m not sure how that works.
Exactly this. Blind leading the blind.

Lacking context somewhat though. Everyone on here knew RDZ needed support, and our summer window hadn’t exactly been brilliant. But what he did was give us a clear identity when the team was fit.

FH has been given £240m of talent, and yes he’s had injuries, and yes some of those players are young, but there’s been no progress or improvement in any of them really, and no real sign of a proper style.

Do you not think that from March onwards there wasn’t much to play for? That would explain the drop off. Not a very valid excuse but you can see why we dipped end of season. FH has everything to play for, but he’s struggling with it already.
