Fact is, playing for your country used to be seen as an honour. Now its just an inconvenience. Club managers make no bones of the fact they consider it superflous, they'd rather their players were not involved as of course it detracts from their preperations for the all-singing, all-dancing "Best League in the World". Just wait for our underperforming "world class players" to start falling back on the old burnout excuse after those glorious 4 games in the summer.

The Premier League has successfully murdered the England team, and this is just another symptom.

I agree the day Sky started chucking money at our premier league i always thought it would go like this and that is exactly why i won't ever spend money with them i really believe that they and ferguson in particular have f***ed our English team.

Wes Brown was never English Class IMO anyway but retiring at 30 as a defender:tosser:

Its got f*** all to do with playing for England, they dont want to play for the manager
I suspect this is the real reason, sadly.

Personally I suspect the two players in question feel somehow betrayed by being somehow left out of the WC squad, which then promptly had it's arse kicked in Africa. And I can understand that they don't want to be tarred with the brush of international failure and I'm actually pleasantly surprised Zamora has agreed to play in some ways.

I think players are now scared to be associated with England after the World Cup.
Robinson gone. Brown gone.

Carrick said he was injured and out for 2 weeks, pulled out of the squad then STARTED in the Charity Shield the very next day. What was that about?

Gerrard will no doubt be "injured" before Wednesday and pull out

The sooner we get rid of the Italian clown the better.

He has lost it big time.
He's not a clown though is he? Look at his track record FFS. I'm beginning to wonder whether he's right for this job though and I've concluded that it won't matter who runs the national team, nothing will change without a grass roots overhaul.

Afterall, most of our best players are actually not good enough when asked to do something they're even slightly unfamiliar with. Take Terry for example. Hopeless if he's playing in the other centre back role, to which he is unaccustomed. Remind me why he's being paid £100k a week again.

I reckon that with more qualified and better coaching, we might see results in 10-15 years time. Until then, same old same old.

I honestly think he is a clown. Some of the fundemental things i expect from a competant England manager he cannot grasp.

He cant speak english still, he has no relationship with any player, and the new squad is laughable. Now capped of with players pulling out lef right and centre.

This is just the start more will follow in my opinon, now the dust is settling after the WC

There are many reasons we are so shit at soccering. Fabio Capello (winner of numerous pots in 2 countries) is way down the list of things to blame.

I agree that he is a top class coach (just look at the WC qualification campaign), however his man management of the squad during the warm up and world cup itself didn't seem to work well. I'm fairly sure that the strict restrictions imposed on the players caused a bit of resentment, hopefully he'll have learnt from this and cut a bit more slack.

Today 3 fringe players - and I include the Carrick exchange - have all made Cappello and the FA look like idiots.

I don't agree with all this "embarrassment for Capello" stuff being bandied about. The only people that should be embarrassed about it are the players themselves. Robinson particularly, "boo hoo I don't like being picked for the squad and not playing, I'm going home" and as for his "I couldn't retire before now as I wasn't selected" just what the f*** is that all about.

Any player that says they don't want to play for their Country can f*** right off in my book.

But at the time everybody was saying that his strict man-management style was just what was needed to keep a load of fancy-dan prima-donna premiership footballers focused on the job in hand. And a refreshing change from the "My mates Lamps, Becks, JT and Stevie G" approach of McClaren.

No great loss in losing either of them. Disgrace that they are retiring from international football though. As the saying goes: International football retires you, you don't retire from international football.

To be fair, who would honestly want to the way fans/media get on their back.

Yes, I would. It's playing for ENGLAND FFS. Everyone all gets very precious and defensive when they get accused of being SHIT at the World Cup because they simply don't care enough. Then a couple of players who missed out and have a chance to seize the initiative, pack up their tent and go home when they get called up.

Anyone who wants to "retire" from International Football can f*** right off IMHO. We don't need or want players like that.

Ferguson does my head in too. Last year he brought back Rooney about 10 minutes after he was possibly out for the season.

Friday Man Utd say Carrick is ruled out for 2 weeks

Saturday he is not named in England squad as a result of said injury squad.

Sunday he is starting against Chelsea in some friendly at Wembley

An absolute f***ing joke - players retiring from international football! You do not, I repeat do not retire from international football, turning your back on your country, cant get this one.

Those players are not future nor current England Internationals under this current regime.

The players know this, they are being used by the FA and Capello to try to put a team of untried youngsters as well as some experienced players that might offer a level of quality to compete against Hungary.

Robinson and Brown were quickly deemed not good enough a couple of months ago by Capello and they know they wont be deemed any better after this game.

They are being used cynically as stop gaps for this game, why not put all the failing players from the world cup in the team and demand that they take the brunt of the crowds frustrations ?
