I'd refute that argument. If w ehad a couple of great finishers, that we want the opportunity to fall to, then maybe your statement would be correct.I'd argue it's costing us goals and him assists. I understand why you'd pick out Ayari, but Welbeck, Rutter and Pedro are also about. Hope it clicks still, he's obviously very good but it hasn't happened since his earlier days, much like Ferguson in a way but he's had fewer opportunities.
But Welbeck/Pedro/Giorginio aren't that player.
Continually probing for an opening doesn't realy lead to a lot of high Xg opportunities.
The eventual xg from every time we refuse a shot and pass instead is still pretty tiny.
Most of those attacks don't end with a high xg opportunity.
They are far more likely to end without a shot of any description.
Having one player capable of hitting the target from long shots, gives us a variety of threats.
