Negotiations take time for loads of reasons.

I’ve no visibility of the reasons for this one taking time, but if I had to guess, I’d guess that Derby want to make sure they’ve got a replacement CB before they sanction the move.

I also don’t think we necessarily want to follow the Todd Boehly method of negotiation, and just keep adding millions to the offer price.
Agreed but then if you don't want to pay it, walk away. If reports are accurate, in the end, we're paying over double of our original bid anyway...
Why now are we suddenly upping our bids if originally we werent prepared too. £10mill just seems a lot tbh.

According to BBC they have now signed Matt Clarke from Middlesbrough

In PL terms, I don’t think £10 million sounds excessive if we think he could become a first team player. I’ve watched a few highlight reels, and he seems to play “our” way, he’s very good at getting his head up and picking a pass to a player further up the pitch. His positioning seemed good too.

He didn’t look gazelle-like in the clips I saw, but nor was he slower than the attackers he was up against. As for more than doubling his price, he’s signed a new deal since our last attempt to get him, which has given Derby more leverage.

I’d say our data has tended to get more right than wrong over the years. I’m choosing to trust the club.

Half what we paid for Webster five and a half years ago. Seems a reasonable price.

You cannot simply rely on stats. I’m putting that on record now. And hoping it bites me on the ass.
A player who lacks agility and pace at the very top level WILL struggle no matter how good his stats are.
And this comparison to Dunk is nonsense. Dunk is 6ft 4. He’s also an exception. There are very few CBs who start lower down the English pyramid and consistently produce at the top without outstanding physical attributes.
But fingers crossed because we need him.

We have had one or two players that signed ,but never played for us……..
We have, but given our constant injury issues I think it’s very likely if this deal gets done and he comes straight away (no loan back) he’ll get minutes.

That brings the number of fit CBs (excluding Cashin) to 1, I do hope we see another :)
Fair enough, but he is known by the Derby fans as having the speed of a snail and the turning circle of an oil tanker.
I'm not sure either of those things are true, he's not quick but he's not snailesque! There have been distant comparisons to Paul McGrath who payed a season for us in the mid 90s, he could barely run by then but still did great job.
Ajax fans said Veltman was shit. Leeds fans said Georginio was shit. Wigan fans said Burn was shit
You won't find many Derby fans saying Cashin is shit - I think they're mildly surprised that Brighton on are in for him and generally think that it's a really good fee. Take the money and Clarke in, it feels like we're having a decent window, as it were. Doesn't make Cashin shit.

£10 m for a championship defender (and one that is hardly pulling up any trees) does seem ludicrous.

A few years ago that might have got you the top goalscorer in the championship.
