The idea that the best teams in the world don’t have the best data is amusing. Fbref has data from Opta. Check Fbref and you’ll see a clear link between our potential transfers and the players on there with great stats. And that’s just the stuff available to us normal folk.
Difference is teams are seeing the value in taking a punt or concentrating on younger players.
Teams have data equal to ours.
Other PL teams use Wy Scout there is only so much data on a player you can muster.

Jamestown - Another guy? Came out of StarLizard didn’t it?

Yes, Star Lizard is situated on Jamestown Road.

Up until September 2023 Star Lizard was listed as a person with significant control in Jamestown Analytics on companies house. TB clearly had/has some interest in Jamestown but like Star Lizard he's never been listed as a director of either company.

'Morning all - Ram in peace here.

The word locally is that Cashin is having a medical down your way this morning. The deal is rumoured to be £9.5M + add-ons, resale % etc.

If correct, I think most Rams will be OK with that. It'll be the first decent fee we've received for one of our Academy graduates since the whole financial meltdown days - the list of players we were forced to sell or had filched for nothing because we weren't allowed to extend their contracts or offer professional terms to 17 year olds makes painful reading for us fans. Now, if the hierarchy use the money well, we might be able to save our season and start to build again.

Eiran will leave us with the best wishes of all but a bitter few of us. He's been immense, an absolute inspiration at such a young age. We'll all watch closely to see how his career progresses from here. His ability is unquestionable, but it's the pace of the PL which we fear he might struggle with. He's a fast learner though, so hopefully he'll find a way to adapt.

I think most of us would agree that he's most comfortable in a 2. He often looks exposed on the left of a 3. And he's no LB or LWB.

Treat him well and he won't let you down - just don't loan him back to one of our relegation rivals this season, eh?!

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Jamestown registered in Brighton. Came out of Star Lizard. Fair enough to surmise that Tony 'is' the mover and shaker.

Great post... we are used to a lack of pace BTW... see Dunk et al...

Great post. We are also used to having a ‘bitter few’ group of fans (see most other threads on NSC).

Cover for the injured Igor, but do we think that this is also succession planning for Dunky?

A left footed Dunk is what came to mind watching the Youtube clips. A mixture of well timed challenges and long, raking cross field balls. Natural left sided centre backs are in great demand these days. I presume that is part of our interest. Good to see that he has few yellows and reds, but as he plays against better and quicker players, I guess that he'll, as Warren Aspinall used to say about Championship Dunky: 'Have a rick in him'; the slight lapses in concentration that find him out of position, or the tackle not so well timed. Nobody makes YouTube videos of those, but I guess we'll need to be patient as he finds his feet at the level, something that a lot of us forgot when Adam Webster joined. That's easy to do as CB is often quite an exposed position.

If the long term plan is him and JPvH, we'd be losing a bit of aerial dominance. JPvH is generally okay in his own area, but it would be good to see him a bit more Dunk/Duffy-like further up the field. I've been waiting for him to score from a set piece, but he's never done it.

Bit underwhelmed with this, would much prefer to make do with our current options and sign Boscagli in the summer.

Signing Cashin now doesn't stop us going for Boscagli in the summer. We need cover at CB now and with Webster entering the last year of his contract this summer we could need another centre back if we decide to recoup a bit of money on him. Plus more cover would allow us to get the promising McConville a loan move somewhere.

Like any player will have my full support and I truly hope this one works as it’s a position I think every Albion supporter would like strengthened. Worried about his lack of height and pace but he seems a warrior (with decent skill on the ball) and that’s decent foundation.

He’s the same height as Veltman, so doubt that’ll be much of an issue.

Yup. I’m not saying height is essential.
You look at untried players and you’re looking for some outstanding physical attributes to give you added confidence. By no means writing him off. He’s not small, nor is pace always essential as the above post re Terry highlights.
But it’s levels. Terry was always destined for greatness. Veltman made his international debut at 21.
As i said, I’m hoping he’s a success but this feels like quite the punt. Something we are very good at getting right, happily.

Yeah, I mean:

Top 10 in the PL
Recent investment in some great young talented players
Magnificent training facilities
Manager with fresh ideas who has a lot to learn but also a lot of potential
Fan as an owner
Much-admired and effective CEO
Operations that are envied by other fans and clubs
Financially stable.

What a complete and utter shitshow of a cluskerfack we are in here. Relegation and then administration is SHIRLEY just around the corner.

Sussex but not by the sea
Defending is not difficult if you defend as a team or at least a unit. For example if Pervis goes walkabout and we lose possession then whoever is playing at LCB has a problem.
Two questions re this guy:
1) Can he move the ball quickly, urgently, with intensity?
2) Is he injury prone or made of glass?

1) Reasonably so but things are different in the PL innit.
2) No.
