It has already been mentioned on here how perhaps keep playing the same non scoring strikers perhaps takes away competition in the squad. Isnt that how Potter affects results?

He clearly doesn’t fancy Tau, he sees him every day so that’s his judgement. As soon as Connolly and Welbeck are fit he’s been trying them and playing them. Tried Lallana up front as soon as he’s properly fit and it nearly paid off as on a different day he could have had the match ball.

Now you feel having never really seen Tau that he’s worth the gamble, but you may not feel like that if you were seeing him in training games and he looked out of his depth. I don’t know. As for his other options, I think he’s been consistently trying them all when they’re fit, and in different combinations.

Definitely verging on the "down" side. There have many opportunities when I've thought we just need to do well in these couple of games - and then we don't.

The Southampton game is the same. Win that and I can easily see us being safe. Lose it and I think we're likely to depart. And we just aren't much good in these sort of crunch games.

I hope to be proved wrong tomorrow.

I didn’t think you would but I’m not sure now.

If we lost to Stains and Newcastle, do you think we’ll drop?

It also depends on what Fulham do too (assuming they lose tonight), but in every year under 30 points isn't enough to stay up.

Certainly if we lose to Newcastle and Southampton I could see us being 2 to 4 points adrift and things being difficult.

But all season we've looked like we could start on a good run - but never seem quite able to do it.

I know for a fact they were signed when he was manager, so he would have had a say in it.

Ah. So it wasn’t solely his call then. His job title is head coach don’t forget.

GP can be blamed for many things, but I’m not willing to blame recruitment on him personally. Unless you have some embedded insight into the club recruitment conversations we’re not privy to.

I wasn't 'blaming him' for recruitment. The OP said GP inherited our current forwards, which wasn't correct. 3/5 were signed whilst he was manager. Whether Potter had a large part in signing them or simply had the final say is irrelevant.

I had been fairly certain we would stay up. Now I’m far more concerned.

We’ll know after the next two games I think.

We need to beat Southampton and Newcastle if we dont then we are probably down.

That’s a bit fanciful that we ‘need’ to win both. We could likely draw both and be 28 pts with 27 pts still to play for. I think people get a bit fatalistic at this stage, still a lot of football left in the season.

How will you feel if we lose the next two games?

More importantly, what mental state will our team be in if they lose no matter how good the performance?

I think it's because these are 2 of our most 'winnable' upcoming fixtures (and Newcastle is a 6 pointer).

If we can't beat Saints and Newcastle, do we have any chance of picking up points elsewhere?

Many NSC optimists have pointed out that we could easily win matches against the big spenders.

We might get lucky eg ManC, ManU and Chelsea each get a whole load of key injuries, or naively rest too many players before European ties

I do regret including it. Complete cop out, hang your heads in shame those that voted Fence

Although I did expect the majority to vote Fence
Nowt wrong with voting fence - no shame here!
All through the first half of the season, when we were playing well but just not getting the results, I always thought the luck would even out and we'd start getting the results we deserved - and in January it looked as if we had. Firmly in the 'no, we're not going to be relegated' camp. Our recent run of desperate results has inevitably (and justifiably) raised doubts - don't think we'll go down, but by no means certain.

It's looking more and more likely now other results have stopped going in our favour.

I imagine all you Potter outs would cream your pants if we binned Potter and got Dyche?

Players need game time to get up to speed. Some players don't train well but have big affect on the pitch. I think he needs to tinker until something works.

In 2020 we were the very last professional team to win a game. He had 3 month to think about things and he managed to come up with a solution. He can do it. He just needs to figure things out.
