While it IS frustrating that our transfer dealings are being held up by this tribunal, I can't see any other way the club can go about it at the moment. The bottom line is that the Harding fee will dictate the kind of players McGhee can afford to go for - its all very well saying "we should spend now as we know we'll get at least x amount for Harding", but if we end up getting shafted (a) by the tribunal fee or (b) with Leeds dragging their feet to pay it, then we'll end up on Shit Street.

I think we could end up with anything between £300k - £1m for Harding. That kind of disparity will make a massive, massive difference to what MM has at his disposal. He COULD be cautious and go for players at the lower end of the scale, but then if we hit the jackpot with the Harding fee, then MM's ended up getting players of a lesser quality than he could have gone for. Alternately, he could spunk half a mill up the wall in the hope of getting a nice wedge from Leeds, only to find we end up getting £300k, landing us bang in trouble.

Its not ideal, and its bloody annoying, but thats life innit. We all know the financial tightrope the club is walking, and now is not the time to start gambling with those finances.

My prediction is that Kiupers will never play again and we will start the season with youth goalies as first team and sub.

We could temp Rabbi Shanka back or has he moved to a premiership club?

Clearly there is some merit to that argument. However, we must have had a budget before Dan left us, and the chances of that changing greatly with any realistic money for him must be slim.

The likes of Trevor Benjamin should have been afordable within the original budget, and given our current financial position, we are likely to try to acquire "bargains" however much we get for Dan.

The whole thing about no transfers without the tribunal being over is not credible. Now if DK/Poodle have been given the nod about Falmer, and know that things are about to change... ???

I disagree. We do have a budget (of sorts), but to say that the Harding fee won't change that budget greatly is well wide of the mark. This club is living hand-to-mouth at the moment, so even a difference of, say, £200k, could make all the difference when it comes down to transfer and contract negotiations in terms of who McGhee can go for. It'd be irresponsible to go out spending before we know what we've got to spend.

Despite what people say he DID do a decent job for us, played loads of games and did well at the business end of the season.

At last someone I agree with on this thread ...

Harding did not fluke his U21 caps and he didn't fluke 40 odd games in the Championship for us last season. Yes, he made some mistakes, but so did Hinsh/Virgs et al. He's a young player, still learning his trade. If you could see past those mistakes there was definitley talent, whether it comes to fruition is another matter. Why is everyone so quick to disregard the opinions of coaches like MM and Peter Taylor, who obviously rate him?

If we don't get £750k+ (think Dawson etc) for him it'll be a travesty, surely?

But why should we not act now if the right player comes along? Even a difference of £200k will still leave us picking over the bones.

Key words there - if the right player comes along

McGhee has already said he will only get a player who is better than what we already have.

Just seen Insider's reply to my question about trialists. He says there are none with the team now, and there will be none joining in the next few days - to his knowledge. Let's hope his knowledge is very limited because he did not bother putting the question to MM. ???

How about Ross Flitney or the cream de la cream Mr Yelldell?

The scary thing is, during Yelldell's time with us, I only saw him @ Leeds.
So therefore I had quite a high opinion of him!!.
Although, I do doff my cap in reverance, to the great & the good of NSC, & try & keep that quiet.

I had heard (yes, yes, I know - it's just a rumour) that Uncle Dick has already laughed a bid of £350,000 from Leeds back in their face, so that would be a starting point for negotiations. I am led to believe are holding out for a seven-figure fee, knowing that the tribunals are generally favouring the selling club these days. Leeds - no, f*** it, Ken Bates - really have tried to fleece us.

I tried to get some sort of confirmation but the club, quite rightly, is saying nowt.

And, of course, my spies could be horribly wrong.

But to be fair TLO, we are also trying to fleece Leeds into thinking they are getting a decent fullback. Its all cloak and daggers, smoke and mirrors, handbags and EVERYTHING.

If we get half a mill for him, I will be dancing in the streets.

Unfortunately I missed Leeds but saw all his other games so I got the impression he was a poor communicator and as such the players in front of him were not confident in his ability. One of the Derby goals at Withdean springs to mind.
