Cox not good enough

People annoy me about Cox. Yes, often his delivery is not perfect. But here is an idea. Watch a FULL premiership game. Not the highlights a FULL game. Count how many misplaced passes there are, how many corners and free-kicks - even from the likes of Gerrard et al - do not beat the first man or are over-hit and go straight out.

Then come back and demand that a League 1 winger supplies us with pinpoint service every single time he gets on the ball.

Its the same as the idiots who expect our full backs to be able to switch the play to the other side of the pitch, with their wrong foot, while under pressure.

Oh its the same idiots that expecxt PROFESSIONALS to be able to do their job properly.

Not quite sure where the idiocy is here - obvious it must be me because I was expecting a professional footballer to be able to pass the ball accurately to a player in the same team.

Cox is over rated and just not good enough - even in this team, even at this level, even in this season!

Hammond offered something going forward, something no midfielder since he left has done.

Hammond wasn't a BAD player, but I wasn't particularly sad to see him go (specially for that fee), being as he'd been Mr Invisible for almost that entire season up until being sold. People seem to look back and remember his smattering of goals/pens. But he was poor enough in our team to earn an ultimatum from McGhee to perform over x number of games or he'd not be getting his contract renewed. He knuckled down for a while, put in the performances and rightly earned that contract. But he'd very much slipped back to his anonymous ways the season he was sold, in my opinion.

Not sure I've read anyone getting quite that carried away mate.

I'd say perhaps a Curbishley at Charlton. Was doing a very solid job with a team that wasn't as good as their position in the league. The job being done by the manager was only fully appreciated when someone else tried to improve on it and it all went pop.

Yup, agree with that. I was just exagerrating to illustrate a point.

When he got that short term contract he had played about 3 games for us. McGhee gave him a 3 month deal, brought him in for the home game against Preston, which was our first win of the season, played him for a bit, gave him a longer deal, dropped him, then brought him back for the run in, including the 2-2 with West Ham, where Hammond got both goals.

The following season he was a regular, often on the left. Then the next season after McGhee went, Wilkins made him captain and he was a regular until we sold him.

This is a thread about Cox so I don't want to hijack it too much with the old Hammond debate. And what you say is correct. But it doesn't alter my opinion that a lot of folk seem to look back and vastly overrate Hammond, based largely on the fact that we are currently shit, and have been since he left.

Fact is, we were shit when Hammond was here as well.

Hmmm, not sure about that. The difference between them imo is that with Carole you have a player who can turn a match with a bit of skill, skill which Cox seems to lack.

Sorry lol? It's a game of opinions, I know.. But carole was right in front of me the whole of the second half (C block) and he really, REALLY was awful. He just didn't move. In one bit when he did get involved, Whing came forward expecting Carole to run on the outside of the defender and thus we would have a 2 on 1 scenario. Carole instead stood on the byline! Whing had to hold it for 5 seconds to realise Carole wasn't going to move, played it to his, feet then he got tackled!

Second scenario was when Fozzie almost scored. Carole was slow in getting the cross in and a defender came across, upon which Carole hit his cross into his legs. The ball came back to his feet and he kicked it at the defender again. It the fell back to Whing who showed Carole how to really put a cross in and Forster almost scored from it.

Imo Cox was by far better than Carole. But imo, the team really needs to practice working space and passing to bring these two, clearly talented, players into the game. So either RS works a bit of magic and gets them playing, or we drop both for stronger players who can scrap a bit and try and keep us up and work on wing play in the summer.

Another poor performance from coxy last night, why does he alwaystake set pieces when he never beats the first man, surely he must notice this, can he not put a bit more power on them every now and then?
Always seems to drift in to the centre when he is playing out wide so our full backs are totally exposed. And its not like he will win a tackle or header when he is in the middle of the park either :shootself
Yet another disgusting dive from him last night :nono:

He reminds me personally of a Aaron lennon type player
Good pace and technical ability BUT No crossing ability...

Cox,Robinson,Elphick & Hinshelwood had one thing going for them, they were local and cheap, that is a big plus in Knights cheap option system.

You can't fault Cox for workrate most of the time. Last night was a perfect example, he was buzzing around all over the place for the whole 90 minutes.
But particularly this season there has been a severe lack of end product from him, it was the same last night. Wilkins got the best out of him for his first season, and even at times in his second pro season. But this season he has had hardly any impact which is very frustrating because we all know he has the potential.

I just wish McLeod could get himself fit then we would'nt need Cox in the team, I dont rate Cox he offers nothing to the team but until we get someone who can play on the left side of midfield it looks like we're stuck with him.

I don't think that is correct Easy.

I do.
We REEKED that season in the run-up to his sale. That wasn't all down to Hammond obviously, but he certainly wasn't the shining beacon of midfield mastery some folk have him pegged as.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
Just a bit too much blue arse fly like performances.....BUT, I think like Jake Robinson he very much does have a role at the Albion, we need players who have come up through the ranks, now whether that is as a 'reserve' I'm not sure.

Lets bear in mind that a limited budget L1/L2 (if thats where we are heading) needs a mix of players with different abilities.
