He has certainly gone backwards, like so many of the youngsters under Adams.

It has nothing to do with Adams and all to do with their lack of ability/attitude.

He's no good in the middle behind the front two, as he is so lightweight he is brushed off the ball EASILY and simply disappears. He's no good on the wing as his crossing is consistantly ABYSMAL. I have no idea what the f*** he does all week, but it clearly isn't spent on practicing his delivery of the ball.

So I'm at something of a loss as to what we get from Cox these days. He had one decent season a couple of years ago, and like so many other players at the club, has gone backwards since then. There just doesn't seem to be the toughness or the hunger in him to improve himself, but then he's not alone there.

Exactly, so when they practice corners and the balls given to Cox what the f*** do they do. Piss off for a cup of tea whilst Tiny drills the ball into a line of garden gnomes ?

I can't agree there, all these youngsters in the past have shown ability under both McGhee and Wilkins. Thats why in the past we have always thought that some of them could be worth money to this club in transfer fees.
As for attitude, that certainley is the responsibility of any manager, he has to instill the correct attitude in players.

He's best of a poor midfield bunch in some respects though. Jarrett was woeful last night and along with El Abd (until the re-jig) I still think our centre midfield really lacks any sort of commanding presence. We need a Richie Carpenter.

Really regarding Jarrett? I thought in the holding role he did well enough last night.

The problem in the centre of the midfield is that we have not replaced Hammond. We have nobody making runs from the midfield.

:clap: Hammonds value to our team was so underated by so many. Before I get slated thats my opinion.

Hammond was my favourite player and I would welcome him back with open arms.

Since his departure we have not had any central midfield player who regularly gets ahead of the ball and occupies defenders, thus helping create space for the forwards.

I for one would rather have paid Hammond over the odds instead of having to spunk a load of cash on the dozen or so loan signings and new players we have tried, and failed, to replace him with.

I'll have to disagree with you on this point. Attitude has to come from within the player. Of course the manager needs to keep the players in line but the responsibility for being professional is the player's and the player's alone. If they need a manager to constantly remind them about their attitude they have chosen the wrong profession and could explain why they'll never be anything other than lower league players.

Since Hammond left our centre midfield list reads something like

Westlake
O'Callaghan
Martot
Cox
Virgo
El Abd
Thomson
Loft
Reid
Racon
Livermore
Johnson
Savage
Thornton
Birchall
Fraser
Hinshlewood
Jarrett
Bangura
And yet none of them have been better than Hammond!

What I don't understand about Jarrett is that he was doing the Hammond role, whereby he was bursting forward and threatening to get on teh end of balls played into teh centre. he was being teh "box-to-box" midfielder Micky told us he was when he signed him.

But since the first 2 or 3 appearances, that's just stopped. The other week, he was playing a holding role allowing FRASER to push further forward!? So it would appear to be a deliberate ploy, but i don't understand it, and I think Jarrett has looked far less effective as a result.

Cox wasn't very good again last night for all his running. Needs to up his game but this has been the case for months. Those saying he put more balls into the box than Carole - yes but that also isn't saying much.

As for Jarrett, send him back. Sometimes looks good but the amount of times he gifts opponents the ball is ridiculous. Also seems to be totally unaware of which is the best ball when we break forward.

As ever, the Hammond-lovers always choose to overlook the increasingly numerous performances from him where he was totally anonymous, and the games that utterly passed him by. The fact that our midfield has been SHIZER since he left doesn't mean it was much better when he was still here. We've been gubbins in that department since Chippy lost his legs.

Said it before about the revisionists on here. Wilkins is made out to be Mourinho, and Hammond was obviously Zidane.

I think that Cox does have what it takes but his biggest problem is that he seems to think he is better than he actually is. If he can knuckle down and produce consistently then he will be an asset.

Not sure I've read anyone getting quite that carried away mate.

I'd say perhaps a Curbishley at Charlton. Was doing a very solid job with a team that wasn't as good as their position in the league. The job being done by the manager was only fully appreciated when someone else tried to improve on it and it all went pop.

Hammond offered something going forward, something no midfielder since he left has done.
