The UK labour force wasn’t as cheap or as plentiful as the African labour force. Of course, racism was rife in this period and this enabled a collective turning of a blind eye to the atrocities of slavery but it is a stretch to claim it was some form of ethnic cleansing. Where I might agree with you is that some in the church may have seen it that way. Anyway, we digress. I support the taking of the knee if people want to do it and think I see it for what it is, which is a statement. Any players who wish to continue will do so. I am also of the view that it won’t change anything and may actually become a convenient alternative to actually doing something. It is also becoming just another political football for some to score points against their adversaries on other issues (evidence on this thread).

He has also objected to wearing T-shirts supportive of Black Lives Matter. He is fed up of "charades that mean nothing" believing that the kneeling business is simply a kind of virtue signalling. He also refuses to put his name to BLM campaigns. Apparently Zaha is not alone among players who feel uneasy about the whole knee business.
