at some point :bigwave:
Ok, well perhaps you and cov can answer the original question that sparked this 'debate' - what nationality do YOU think the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Theo Walcott are, and if you favour repatriation what homeland should they be 'sent back' to.?

It depends on how one defines a nationality. I was born and have lived my life in England. I have Scotish, Irish and English history in my family. This I guess makes me British but I like to think of myself as being English. If I moved to Australia and lived there for 20 years I would still consider myself English/British as my ancestry hails from this part of the world. In the cases of Ferdinand and Walcott one could describe them as being of Afro-Caribbean extraction which in it's self I do not consider to be a racist assumption. Any statement on colour or cread made by Nick Griffin is going to be assumed as being racist as he is the leader of a political party that represents the Far Right. Mr Griffin should remember that NON WHITES have given their lives for this country in order that he and his followers can live in a free society.

I don't think we're assuming anything when you look at what he said

'Campbell asked whether England footballers like Theo Walcott and Rio Ferdinand were really "English" Griffin, caught up in his own Alice-in-wonderland world replied "Of course they aren't English, they're Afro-Caribbean." '

These are two people born in London, and while I'm not sure about Ferdinand (due to it not being mentioned on wikipedia!), Walcott has a Jamaican father and an English mother. They were not picked out on any basis of their heritage, purely on the colour of their skin.

Sorry, I realise that I've picked on one sentence and run with it. I agree with what you post; just wanted to demonstrate that I don't think we're reading anything into this that isn't there, merely stating what he said and the implications that it has.

As Someone who lives in a so called Multi Cultural city. There is very limited integration. People are tribal always have been always will be.
Indeed. Humans are tribal (Northerers/ Soputherners, Scouse/Geordies/Cockneys, English/Scottish etc) But at least there's no one telling them 'this isn't your home'. Live and let live perhaps?

I don't know them either, but if they identify as English, (like for example Ian Wright and Monty Panesar) - can they stay here?

I don't have a problem with anyone who identifies as being English staying here.

I think there have been the odd incident in the likes of Scotland and Wales.Where the English have been told they are not welcome

thats a very pertinent pont you raise, from personal experience ( living a large proportion of my life in multi ethnic london)there are huge amounts of people who were born here, have lived here all their life , and they certainly DONT identify themselves as british, i am also now seeing quite a few south africans with a real chip on their shoulder about the english having the cheek to live here but slag us down at every possible f***ing opportunity.

Walcott has an English mother and Jamacan father---- Is he not half English and half Jamican? If young Theo had been picked to play footie for Jamica, would he be English or Jamican?
Ferdinand one could suggest is of either Spanish or Portugees extraction so could he have been selected to play for either of them?

And this sort of thing is exactly where a lot of BNP/Far right arguments completely fall apart.

Because (unfortunately for them) it's so much more complex than:

"Waaah! We were here first!! MIIINE! Don' wanna shaaare!"

Really,Why then is "mixed race" one of the fastest growing groups in the Census?

(for the record my parents were brought up in different religions & different classes and born in different countries of the Empire).

have you lived in east preston all your life , genuine question ? if so, tell me honestly how you think you would feel if, over the space of 20 years, your local area received an influx of immigrants, of a different religion, which is intolerant of your own , however loosely you may follow it,a lot of whom speak no english and make no attempt to learn, who basically dont want to do anything other than create a little corner of whatever country they come from to the exclusion of the native populace, who end up in the majority, who receive preference in council housing over the native population if they have children, i know if i was married and wanted affordable social housing , i would be f***ing furious if someone who had been here 5 minutes jumped the queue just because they had children and i didnt, tell me how you think you'd really feel ?

Yes, so why do you stick up for the BNP? If they really were the BRITISH National Party as opposed to the Ignorant White Wankers Party I could understand your support. After all some of their policies are just good, old-fashioned Labour 'support the workers' policies.

Ooooh, you really don't like change, do you?

Like the people who complain about new words/usages in the language ...

Like the people who can't stand modern architecture because it's, errr, modern ...
