Silly old bat
There's dozens of trains scheduled after 11pm and several after midnight so if you're going back to Brighton and there is an hours delay (why ? ) then you'll still be fine.
There are four or five trains after 11pm as posted earlier in the thread. If there are seven or eight carriages, then most will be ok, but Southern have been known to provide four carriages only.

Not sure why you think penalties will be done and dusted by 22:45
My estimate would be

Kick off 20:00
First Half ends 20:47
Second half starts 21:00
Second half finishes 21:55 [21:50]
Extra time starts 22:05 [21:55]
Extra time finishes 22:40 [22:28]
Penalties start 22:50 [22:33]
Penalties finish 23:05 [22:45]

Rush to train & queue 23:15
Train back to Brighton 23:19
What can I say, I'm glass half full. :giggle:

I'm guessing a high percentage of our fans will require a connection at Brighton.
The usual strategies of thinning out the attendance with a few people having a drink after the game, a few leaving early, is less likely to happen, if the game goes to penalties.

There are 6 trains scheduled from Falmer to Brighton after 11.
Only one of them should guarantee a connection with the last train to Three Bridges/East Croydon/Worthing/Littlehampton.

22:59, 23:06, 23:19, 23:36, 23:47, 23:52, 00:06, are the services after 11, I expect all but 1 will be 6-8 carriages.

The last train up the Brighton Mainline to London is 00.02

If the penalty shootout isn't done until 11pm, it's going to be fun trying to get every Brighton and Chelsea fan who needs to be on that train otherwise they are stranded back from Falmer within an hour

No matter what Paul Barber's secretary might say on this thread

If the game finishes within 90 minutes, there really isn't a problem.
It's a fairly normal evening kick off experience, with plenty of options to get home.

The situation changes dramatically if we have to play extra time and/or penalties.
At this point the numbe rof trains from Falmer that will meet with connections at Brighton is significantly reduced.

If there are 10,000 people wanting to get back to Brighton at 23:15 it is likely to be fairly chaotic, with a reasonable percentage of those fans having to catch their last train home from Brighton with only one train from Falmer likely to get them there in time.
I would anticipate that loads will leave on 90 minutes whatever the score, with loads having already left at varying points after 80 minutes

Apologies Jack, I was looking at previous posts which seemed to list fewer.
They run as Q (not advertised) paths, so won't be on journey planners. Not a problem, just think sometimes people panic a bit much, its a real pain its 8pm, but I think regardless of train services everyone is going to struggle to get home from that. Other than blocking the 8pm KO not sure what more the club can do!

And how many people can you squeeze on an 8 carriage train?
I'm guessing 1,000 - 1,200.

I'm hoping so.
I'll be aiming for the 11:19 whatever happens - hopefully I'll be having a couple of pints after a comfortable win.

If anybody's got a long onward journey from Brighton by train, would make absolute sense to watch as much of the match live as you feel comfortable with, then watch the rest of the match either in a pub near Brighton station or on the ITV app

PBOBE's going to be less than happy if you fail to control the NSC narrative on this one
No chance of that. There'll be threads moaning about the trains i suspect many years into the future long after i've gone. But I just think, and others agree, that some of the language and discussion and memes when discussing this gets a tad out of hand...

The problem is British men in this country will use the carnage to describe anything, from a traffic light sequence, a queue at a cashpoint to war in the middle east, changes to bin collection times or an indirect freekick. People tend to over exaggerate.

Ground being only two-thirds full at most from the start will compensate for that to some extent
