If it goes to penalties I would not want to be part of the carnage that will be Falmer station when thousands like you are desperately trying to get back to Brighton station for the onward journey back to London. Could be the biggest fire drill ever experienced at the Amex!
Scheduled trains to Brighton:
21:59
22:19
22:29
22:49
22:59
23:19

You seem to be neglecting to include booing the Chelsea team off, the "Freed from Desire" dance party, the "Raaaaay, Raaaaaaay, Raaaaaaaaaaay!" bit and then clapping the Albion off.

That's going to push things past 11.

Not sure why you think penalties will be done and dusted by 22:45
My estimate would be

Kick off 20:00
First Half ends 20:47
Second half starts 21:00
Second half finishes 21:55
Extra time starts 22:05
Extra time finishes 22:40
Penalties start 22:50
Penalties finish 23:05

Rush to train & queue 23:15
Train back to Brighton 23:19

Because you would be giving more points to an unattractive home fixture, than were given to fans forking out full priced ticket and travel costs to go to Manchester/Newcastle/Villa etc.

The incentive is already there with the reduced price.
Likelihood is that it wouldn't move the needle too much anyway.
Yes, because nobody wants to go to a home cup game that is on telly whereas people DO want to spend the day travelling to the big cities. Just because the costs involved with an away day are higher than a crappy home fixture, doesn't mean the demand is lower.

The club have 27,000 home tickets to sell for a game that's on TV. It isn't going to sell out without incentives. On the other hand, we don't struggle to sell out an away league game at Villa with a regular kick off time because people actually want to go to that.

Each to their own I said. But I'd be willing to bet a lot of these issues would magically vanish if we were playing a European tie on a Saturday evening at 8.
Hahaha another one not understanding that playing a European team is not the same as playing a team we've played many times in recent years. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Loyalty points aren't an incentive to shift tickets though.

Is it really a pricing thing?

There's not much scope on the price, really. This was never going to be £15 a ticket, so £20 is about as low as it would be.

Is saving a fiver really going to sway the folk who see it as a travel ballache and have chosen to buy a few beers in at home and watch it on the sofa?

I think it is a combination of factors.

Agreed that the central issue of it being a relatively unattractive proposition compared to other fixtures does not change with any marketing options.

But, I would have marketed it as "Come to The Amex and get behind Fabian and the lads as Tony and the club dream of Wembley! Great chance to see our brilliant squad taking on Chelsea in THE CUP! We've set prices as low as we can and given the maximum Loyalty Points to reward our regular fans" (i.e. Message: We really want as big a crowd as possible from our regulars and also to use the chance to give people a first, or rare, opportunity to come and fill The Amex)

I understand it completely as I've explained. My point is that we, for whatever reason, now have quite a chunk of fans who are less keen on putting themselves out for so called unattractive fixtures as opposed to some fanbases. Which is fine, I probably wouldn't have taken the evening off work for it if I didn't happen to be off. Again, each to their own - it's a shame the Amex won't be full so the team won't get the backing they might have done but clearly many won't be that bothered if we go out of the cup.

Why is a temporary queue or a limited delay getting home on the train from Falmer station routinely described on here as "carnage" . ?

I really don't get the 'shock' here. There are various reasons why this is not an attractive fixture that we outlined straight after the kick off and pricing was announced. If we end up 'only' getting 24000 in despite all that and so many of our fans not being arsed, who really cares.

Hopefully it will be another thing to put pressure on TV companies not to dick around, and the club to do more to make the Amex accessible, but I seriously doubt it.

But you aren't rewarding regular fans are you?
You are rewarding every Tom Dick and Harry that turns up.

It may motivate those of us that hover around Tier 1 and Tier 2 for the smaller allocation games, but other than that, it will mean very little to the average match going crowd.
The way the algorithm works is
Tier 1 - top max 3,000 fans
Tier 2 - remaining top 50% of season ticket holders
Tier 3 - remaining season ticket holders.

Giving everyone in Tier 2 /Tier 3 15 points, means most fans stay exactly where they are in teh pecking order.

This was the scene after this season's Carabao Cup game v Liverpool. Looks to me to be the very definition of carnage

Again, says who? If not, then why do high demand matches attract a low number of points and vice versa?

Of the 3000 available tickets for an away game , there are enough people in tier 1 to buy them
whatever is left over is available to those who aren't in tier 1 and may be sufficient to elevate them into Tier 1.

Tier 2 is vast (10,000 ish) so unless your near the top, it isn't a huge motivation.

By offering 27,000 people 15 pts, you are effectively just pushing the qualification numbers for everyone up a bit.
Those at the top of Tier2 are likely to buy them, but anyone else just stays close to where they are whether they buy or not.

Therefore a maximum of 6,000 fans will have a vested interest in the additional points.

Possibly most “let them eat cake” response from the paid toady yet? Competition may be fierce. Unreal.

I don't think anyone who only needs to get back to Brighton has any problems with the kick off time.
It'll probably quicker to walk it.

Last train to Worthing/Littlehampton is 00:10
Last train to Three bridges/ East Croydon is 00:02

I'm sure ChaileyJem was in that Liverpool queue and definitely not tucked up warm in a sponsors lounge with a taxi called once his free beer had run out, because he seems like a proper fan's man of the people.
