I don't think anyone who only needs to get back to Brighton has any problems with the kick off time.
If the trains to Brighton finished before midnight (as someone who saw the list above might be forgiven for thinking) and we have extra time and penalties, those just going back to Brighton would only have 3 or 4 possible trains to catch, which very much would be an issue.

I wanted to highlight that there are a couple of post-midnight trains, which might assure those who only need to travel to Brighton that they should be fine, even with a very late finish.

I'm sure ChaileyJem was in that Liverpool queue and definitely not tucked up warm in a sponsors lounge with a taxi called once his free beer had run out, because he seems like a proper fan's man of the people.
I don't drink, have travelled on the trains for 14 years, sit in a normal seat and think the hyperbole about the train queues - however frustrating and they sometimes are - is often ridiculous.

I can't say I've been in a train queue after a game that has meant waiting excessively long, BUT this was referring to a cup game that kicks off at 8pm. It's a very specific problem and deserved better than a glib whinge about the use of the word "carnage". Obviously.

The Chelsea game won't have the same problems as the Liverpool game, because the service is much more enhanced than that game, its a saturday, more rolling stock is available, there should be 7/8 carriages on all regularly scheduled services, and 4/6 on both Lewes shuttles. Thats a bigger uplift from 3/4 on regular services on a weekday and 4 maximum on Lewes shuttles on a midweek. The reason this game has a crap attendance is because its 8pm and for a lot of people that will mean getting home a lot lot later.

Agreed. I think i've waited more than an hour once or twice in 14 years. And There isn't going to be "carnage" is there. There's going to be, at worst, some long queues for trains and a late night return home - not helped by the scheduling of the match. Why the hyperbole ?

It's not really whataboutary. Just making the point that for so many people in Sussex this game isn't an option because of the kick off time / transport issues etc, but for people in London it seems to be OK. Just seems a bit strange.

Lots of Chavs live round Brighton, Sussex, Surrey.

Waiting more than an hour after the end of an 8pm kick off means no return home.

This was the scene after this season's Carabao Cup game v Liverpool. Looks to me to be the very definition of carnage
Its frustrating but its a pretty polite queue to catch a train . the very definition of carnage is "the violent killing of large numbers of people, especially in war:" - hence hyperbole.

Are we seriously squabbling over the use and definition of the word "carnage"? It was clearly originally used to define queues of thousands (including young kids) waiting for an inadequate number of trains that could very easily lead to a two hour wait from 11pm onwards. Sorry if you've decided the important thing is not to use the word "carnage" to define that outcome. I can't think why you're considered a club patsy.

There's dozens of trains scheduled after 11pm and several after midnight so if you're going back to Brighton and there is an hours delay (why ? ) then you'll still be fine.

If the game finishes within 90 minutes, there really isn't a problem.
It's a fairly normal evening kick off experience, with plenty of options to get home.

The situation changes dramatically if we have to play extra time and/or penalties.
At this point the numbe rof trains from Falmer that will meet with connections at Brighton is significantly reduced.

If there are 10,000 people wanting to get back to Brighton at 23:15 it is likely to be fairly chaotic, with a reasonable percentage of those fans having to catch their last train home from Brighton with only one train from Falmer likely to get them there in time.

Hopefully those who only have to get to Brighton will hang back and let the others get on the train at 23:19

It won't actually be a crap attendance - it'll be in the 27-30k range. It's funny to think people now consider anything less than 27,000 people at a Brighton & Hove Albion football match to be a crap attendance.
