If people near you get on your pip, why not have a word with them? You never know, it might just work - rather than moaning about them on here.

Just a thought.

to be honest everyone had a right to moan last night as it was the worst atmosphere i have experienced at the withdean this season and possibly, ever! Although i didnt actually moan about the players yesterday, which i am quite proud of because im the biggest moaner ever, i was bemused and astonished at how bad it actually was.

I didn't really hear that much moaning and the reason the hole place was quieter than it usually is is probably because the hard core moaners had no manager to moan at. im hoping that a knew manager will be in place by saturday so the atmosphere will pick up and maybe some of the fans who i have noticed leave who have sat at the withdean for years will come back.

By the way whoever was sitting behind me in H block yesterday ruined the game for me. Your jokes where shit and you laugh like mr blobby. Your mate is about 4ft tall and his voice sounds like a transsexual and i have had that seat in row k in H block for years and never experienced a more annoying person than you.

God i hope that was me! :bla:

I sit in E Block, and it is populated by a large amount of whingers.

It also seems to attracts people who don't give a shit about the game at all, such as the two last night who, to my initial confusion, spent most of the first half going on about how impressive Murray has been. They then started going on about Nadal and Federer, and only then did I click which Murray they were on about. Who goes to a footy match to spend half an hour talking about tennis?

Last night i found it very hard to enjoy the game, not because of the performance but because of 2 fans sitting behind me who whinged and moaned at the top of their voices throughout the whole match.
I actually came away from the game with my ears ringing because of the screaming, i wouldn't mind if it'd been screaming praise and support but it was just horrible negative abuse towards the bench, the players and every pass, touch, header you could see.

They sat in block E right at the back underneath where the cameras are. It really made me realise why some people go to football matches, in hope for a slip up just to be negative. Who do these people think they are?
Brighton is a club losing support and to sit in the ground surrounded by negativity dosen't encourage future generations of fans to arrive, these fans behind me were screaming abuse for everyone around them to hear, piss take if you ask me as i'm a fan who claps everything good on the pitch and will scream 'Comon!' if we're doing bad but one thing i dont do like most fans is sit there whinging and moaning when we're chasing 3 points in a relegation scrap.

Anyone else experience the fans i'm talking about?

I was there below that stand, and concur about the general cringeworthy 'support' - and I mentioned it during the game to people around me. Embarrassing to witness this "I want it, and I want it NOW" attitude, and the fickle-ness of jeers and anger while we were losing followed immediately with cheers and chanting "AL-BI-ON" when we scored.

What must it be like to be a McNulty or a Carole and endure that shit while trying to make things happen in a tough match?

Seb looks as though nothing could stop him enjoying his football, but it wouldn't half be helpful to quality players (like ALL our players last night), if 'supporters' would actually... support.

And the evidence of teamwork and training was TANGIBLE last night - so no-one should be moaning on about White or Booker either.

Here, Here

I think that the constant moaning has affected the majority of our squad and that is why we are not performing as well as we should.

It makes me laugh some of the comments the moaners make, they sit there and abuse a player, saying they should f off to the conference, then they arn't even good enough for that, despite that player being one of our best players the previous season, and than after 80 minutes of criticism, wonder why there hads drop or they look like they are losing confidence

If Cheering can encourage a team to victory, like having a 12th man on the pitch, won't moaning have the opposite effect?

More than. It helps the opposition, who will even mention it in interviews e.g. "yes, if Brighton aren't walking over you, within 15 minutes their fans will walk all over them and get right on their backs"
It helps them immensely.

Plus, you get on the backs of the team, and you are hamstringing your own 11 players from putting on great performances. Who would, with thousands of people howling over you that "you had better get it right or else be barracked and insulted" by the baying crowd? :shit:

Withdean is currently playing for the opposition. :wozza:

Completely agree, did anyone read the Carlisle managers interview where he was using the Withdean 'mentality' as a tactic against us. (get at us early to get the crowd at our backs...it worked a treat btw)

It's no wonder our away results are better than at home.

This isn't a critisism of everyone just the numbskulls who think that moaning will make the players play better:angry::angry::angry:

There is a really. really annoying, really, really fat guy who sits in F block with his wife and m-in-law (I think) not only is he horribly negative, abusive and whiney (which would be enough to make me want to kill him) but he knows nothing about football. Neither the rules nor how the game is played. He hears something and then repeats it ad infinitum, against Carlisle he had just learnt the phrase "second ball"and, with out knowing what it meant, he must have used the phrase fifty times during the game (twice accurately by chance). Occasionally people say something but by and large they are too polite. One day someone will lose it completely and choke him on a bag of sweets (jumbo size)and my Saturdays will be quieter and happier.

Tried it. It doesn't work. All it does is add to the negative attitude.

But surely that's counterproductive? If you aren't whinging, and want to support the team, wouldn't it be better to carry on watching at Withdean, and actually make an effort to vocally support them?

If you give up the whingers will have won... we'll end up with a stadium 1/4 full, and all of them miserable whining c**ts.

We don't want that, surely?

Papa
No I don't want that but it's my money and I hate paying to experience such a miserable bunch of companions (it costs me two hours of driving and about £20 of petrol on top of the ticket price). I didn't think last night's game was that bad - both teams are at the bottom end of division 3 but it is one constant stream of criticism. I know they aren't playing well but that's when they need support.

The 'support' was diabolical for much of the game last night, morgues have more life in them! It's so frustrating when people like me are desperately trying to get a note out of fellow supporters, let alone an entire song, but no one seems remotely interested. Only in the second half did the crowd come alive, after the players had huffed and puffed and scored a goal. Only then did the crowd unwire their jaws.

FFS, we were on the back of a superb away win, where the crowd helped suck the ball into the net, and yet no one could be arsed yesterday. What's more, we were playing good, attractive football for long periods. We have to help this side stay up. And if we just sit there with our hands in our pockets, moaning, keeping silent, well, we WILL go down.

I've had enough of all the usual Withdean excuses - about it being crap, wet, cold, no roof, paying customers deserve more etc etc. They're all bollocks. If you do go to a game, for Christ's sake, get behind the team!

I sit in G block.......and it's bloody marvellous....!

I think I enjoy the company of those around me, far more than the football sometimes. There is the odd moan.....but nothing continuous.......nothing more than I would expect at any sporting event.

As for the quiet atmosphere last night, I think much of it was due to the recent managerial changes..........and the thoughts that whatever style we were watching last night would almost certaintly change when a new manager is appointed.

Come and join us in the North - better class of whinger. Perhaps when the season tickets for Falmer are available, these low lives who fail to support the team could have first choice to ensure that the rest of us more deserving folk do not have to sit in their vicinity

Another G Blocker here. I'm as guilty as the next man in that I try and make a lot of noise away, but at home I don't feel as comfortable and usually just retreat into my seat and concentrate more on the actual football game rather than making it an atmospheric experience.

The singing stand should be much noisier though - I know it's a bit rich to criticise others when I've admitted I'm nigh on silent, but they have the advantage of having people who are supposedly enthusiastic about making noise all around them and yet it's still almost as quiet as everywhere else. I know the stewards don't help, but equally I've seen the stand being quite noisy and lets just say the stewards have much more of a battle on their hands to get people to sit down. I can't help feeling it's been populated with kids who think they like to sing but really just stand around acting like dicks. A shame, because it would really help the atmosphere of the stadium as a whole. It was a bit embarrassing last night thinking the away fans were witnessing a game in such a morgue.

Hove...
I was completely disgusted with the behaviour at Withdean last night...

Most of the fans were pretty fuckin dormant until we f***ed up and that was when everyone woke up and started making noise by the way of abuse.

Those pricks in the back row in H block really helped...

If you're one of our 11 on that pitch with a half dead crowd that only makes noises when they are fuckin up, how is that supposed to motivate them.!

Millwall on Saturday... The fans were immense... There was not one moment when we were quiet... It was song after song after song.... I know generally travelling support is more of a livelier nature but if the team dish out a pile of 'shit' each week at home then, as fans, so do we.

For the players, we dish out untold buckets of absolute fuckin garb for them at home, and as much as they need to be professional and do the job, I cant blame them for finding it difficult to not just play against the 11 opposite them, but also play against the 6 or 7k surround them.

I'm gonna keep going to Withdean and support the team as best I can, but the quicker we get to Falmer, hopefully, the quicker we can get some decent support through the turnstiles and create a decent atmosphere. I wanna look forward to the game on Saturday and not get pissed of by the idiots that do absolutely nothing to help our team.

We have a responsibility too !!!!!!!!!!

isn't it an offence to shout foul and abusive language at a football match? has anyone tried asking the stewards to have a quiet word with an individual at half time? if they did, what response did they get from the stewards?

i've faced this conundrum myself before. i've had southstanders in d/e block take the piss because i've shouted encouragement rather than moaning (but hey, i was trying to encourage Gatting...). personally, i prefer g/h block because at least they make some effort to be cheerful!

and southeover street seagull..... yes, i would say a moaner/abuser is a twat, so if you are admitting that was you...... and before you go all large on "well you wouldn't say that to my face" - would you have the balls to shout abuse to one of the players in the street rather than the safety of hiding in the stand?

If you read my posts on this subject I have said that I was probably one of the people that The Truth was talking about, but I also said I have never given an Albion player personal abuse, I said I may have moaned at the coaches or managers before.
Last night I know for a fact because I was there that I encouraged players on a number of occasions, The Truth is making out that there was not stop abuse from behind him, which is just not true.
