Surely that isn't the point? When is the last time a middle aged white woman plotted to blow up a planein England? Would you support airport security being geared more towards checking / searching muslims, rather than everyone being treated equally?
No I wouldn't, because while on the face of it such security targeting seems a matter of common sense, it has unintended consequences that people like you don't think about. The main source of security informantion on bombers comes from within the Muslim community itself, that was how the recent plane bomber threat was foiled. If you introduce a discriminatory security threat policy that targets just Muslims, or anyone with brown faces like Brazilian electriciams for example, then many security experts believe that the resultant bad publicity will make co-operation with the Muslim community far harder and our police service will get less leads given to them. This concern is expressed by all the senior Muslim police officers in Britain. They know their stuff, they know what they are talking about.

As was pointed out on an earlier post there's allways a victim of a joke. Now are you saying that we should ban all jokes for fear of offending a person, an animal, a country, a religion etc? That would make it a very serious world fella.
Who's taking about a ban? What I would like is if someone tells a dodgy racist joke, people don't applaud it because they have some kind of beef against Muslims.

As Salma Yaqoob of the Respect Party said on Question Time the other day, every time she picks up the Sun, she expects to see the headline "A Muslim ate my hamster".

Should'nt that be "A Muslim blew up my hamster"? I thought it was Freddie Star who ate them!

Excuse me if I copy a few comments here. I think they outline the issue.

-We all know the difference between a joke and a calculated hate crime.
-I have seen gangs of muslim women parade around the streets of out capital holding sighns that say 'behead those who insult islam'.
- I do think using the word "harm" to children in that context is overblown rhetoric though.
- the poor bank clerk would be shit scared of asking them to remove it in case his face is splashed across the headlines the next day.
- A joke is just a joke, A little light hearted humour to help break up the depression of major issues that do happen in life.

Piltdown man: I feel that my culture is being changed by whats going on but perhaps I'm tolerant to it. I believe that people are upset by the fact that these women aren't prepared to change theirs. As I've said its cultural not religous.

I can agree with all of these. I think everyone needs to chill the f*** out... a joke is a joke.. it doesn't mean I'm a right wing Nazi or anything else. Its a bit of light heartiness that LI said, most Muslims can take. In the same way Christians have had to deal with mockery of there religion.

Would this thread got anywhere NEAR the response if I had said an anti Christian/Jehovah's/American/French/German/Irish joke? I honestly don't think it would.

I also agree with Joe. Freedom of speech also needs regulation, no one person or section of society should be isolated.

It just calls for a bit of give and take, a decent sense of humour and the attitude of 'love thy neighbour' - even if he's a black/white straight/gay Christian/Muslim Average Joe/Paedophile.

Please see this post in its overall context rather than picking out bits of it.. I really think the whole argument is just going round in circles.. it was an interesting debate, that as yet, doesn't have an answer.. Do Jokes harbour deep seated misgivings about the recipient? Is a joke always a tool to demonise or isolate a section of society?

Please for the love of God (ok bad phrase) drop it.

No, but most of the country has moved on from such bigotted crap.

I haven't heard an Irish joke this century. Fact.

Probably because I don't hang around with dimwits like you.

So it is in order to appease the muslims because, as we all know, they are the victims in everything. Isnt it time they responded more as citizens and not so exclusively as Muslims?

Well how would you like it if every hunt for a local paedophile (you know, 99% white and male) started at your house, Commando?

It's not appeasement, it's a policy that is defeating terrorism in this country, the only one that can work. Shame that people like you want to f*** it up by sticking the boot into all Muslims.

Well what you would like & what you are going to get are 2 different things LI, Idealistic world's are fine but this is the real one i'm afraid. I can take the piss out of other people because I dont have a problem with people taking the piss out of me, I'm even happy taking the piss out of myself. The problem with people like yourself is you'll use PC to hide behind while taking the piss out of other people in your own subtle little way! We all like to take the piss but some of us can do it up front & not have to hide behind idealistic excuses!
