A muslim lady knocked on my door today..

It's not just muslim women only who are victims but everyone. Why are you always see muslims as hard done by?

I don't - it's perfectly true that there are many non-Muslim victims in this society, but I just happen to believe many Muslims are in a uniquely vulnerable position right now, particularly Muslim women, because of the high tide of ignorance and hatred currently being thrown at them. You just have to pick up a newspaper these days and there will be some story in it which has some kind of anti-Muslim agenda. As Salma Yaqoob of the Respect Party said on Question Time the other day, every time she picks up the Sun, she expects to see the headline "A Muslim ate my hamster".

That's a joke about media collusion with Islamaphobia by the way, in case all you PC rightwingers didn't get it

On your first point you're wrong, I am exactly that. I have not once said "you can't say or do that", I've just criticised what has been said where I see fit. That is freedom of speach.

On your second point, fair enough.

On your last, I wish that were true but if you read the posts of algie (along with his signature) and a couple of the others I think you'll see that some people are more than happy to either act out or support such actions. I'm not dictating anything.

Oh, but you do. Under the cloak of 'responsibility' you think jokes of this kind should be curtailed for a greater good. You say that they make the situation worse not better. If so, then what is your recommendation? There can be only one and that is that these jokes must be stopped.

I'm not trying to be a dick here, honest. I really worry that in the name of some 'greater good' that our personal freedoms are being taken from us.

As for Algie....yes, point taken also.

No it isn't. Do you accept that racist jokes exist? And that is is generally not a good idea to tell them?

As was pointed out on an earlier post there's allways a victim of a joke. Now are you saying that we should ban all jokes for fear of offending a person, an animal, a country, a religion etc? That would make it a very serious world fella.

So why did you refer to my sig?Does it bother you that much?I never brought it up you did

No. I bought it up because Buzzer thinks no-one who laughed at the jokes on this thread would actually support violence against muslims, your signature and posts from neo-nazi websites on other threads suggest otherwise, that or you are just a posturing keyboard ultrarightwing warrior. But I have never said you can't use that sig or can't say what you have said, just that if you say it you've got to take responsibility for it. Why is that so difficult to understand?

To follow on LI you say are veiled women harming people. Well the education authority believed that this particular women was harming the childrens education.

I feel that my culture is being changed by whats going on but perhaps I'm tolerant to it. I believe that people are upset by the fact that these women aren't prepared to change thiers. As I've said its cultural not religous.

The same way you cannot walk into a bank wearing a motorcycle helmet because you are HIDING YOUR IDENTITY and authorities would be unable to identify you if you were to carry out a crime. It is very simple...

But again we have documented evidence of men in balaclavas and motorbike helmets going in to banks for nefarious purposes.

Now, when was the last time a gang of veiled Muslim women did over a bank? :lolol:

No I don't, you really are missing my point. I'd be happier if they weren't told but I would never legislate against the right to tell them. I just get bent out of shape when they are told and people voice objecions about them they're shot down in flames under the 'cloak' of "it's only a joke". I worry about our freedoms too, that's why this debate is essential and shouldn't be curtailed because of some notion that comedy is outside of the normal rules of debate.

Very simple, there is a fear that gangs of hoodies commit acts of anti-social disorder in town centres (how true that fear is, is actually another interesting debate). Now when was the last time you saw gangs of veiled women going round harrassing people or picking on vulnerable people.

Yet still people are still having a go at veiled women, as if somehow they are harming someone. How does that work again?

So do you tar every hoodie with the same brush then LI? Because they're a youth wearing a hoodie they must be upto anti social behavior? Thats a bit like saying every muslim is a terrorist! Why did I get stopped walking off a beach by the police for wearing a balaclava and asked to take it off(i'd just finished fishing on a cold night) yet a muslim woman can walk around with a veil on without question?

But i do take responsibilty for it and strongly support those views along with many others and the tally is increasing.I wouldn't go as far to say im far right because i'm not.I've never voted in my life but i do support right wing views. Not all though

Surely that isn't the point? When is the last time a middle aged white woman plotted to blow up a planein England? Would you support airport security being geared more towards checking / searching muslims, rather than everyone being treated equally?

It doesnt take too much imagination does it? Anyone can be veiled and conceal their identity because the poor bank clerk would be shit scared of asking them to remove it in case his face is splashed across the headlines the next day.

However, I have seen gangs of muslim women parade around the streets of out capital holding sighns that say 'behead those who insult islam'

LI is right in part to say that the media esp. The Sun, Mirror, Star, Express, Mail are stoking the fires of religious bigotry.

Were you all aware that the largest stash of bomb-making equipment ever found in Britain was discovered by Police earlier this month in Lancashire?

No?

Hmmm. Were you also aware that it was found at the homes of BNP supporters?

No?

http://www.pendletoday.co.uk/ViewArticle2.aspx?SectionID=8&ArticleID=1806619

Wonder what the headlines would have been if they'd been muslim? As a lot of people have been saying:

Freedom of Speech = Good

Fairness in Reporting = Good

Tolerance for each other = Good

Crystal Palace = Bad, very bad

Yes, there was a finely balanced debate on that question, with both sides putting forward interesting points, it's a legitimate debate. Don't have a view on it myself as I will confess to not having studied the issue in depth, in comes down to quite technical stuff about whether the veil stymies non-verbal communication, not qualified to say whether that's true or not. But I do think using the word "harm" to children in that context is overblown rhetoric though.

Okay, point taken and apologies if I've misunderstood what you've said.

Fair do's on your part to stand alone (for the main part) to a fairly vociferous and sustained assault.

No need to apologise but apology accepted. Glad any misunderstanding has been cleared up. I'm sure Biscuit didn't intend any of this when he posted the original joke but I think it's been worthwhile.
