It's funny innit. The more serious the situation regarding Islamic Fundamentalism gets the more petty the arguments about political correctness get. I'm not taking sides here (on this thread) but it is worrying that people are arguing about whether a joke is funny or offensive or a bit of both or neither and not debating what exactly can be done about the situation. Not just on here but in the media and across the world.

The real issues are stil not being debated properly or resolved.

Humour is'nt really your strongest point is it? Have you ever been to see a live commedian?

If I went to see a comedian and he told either of the jokes on this thread I'd be pissed off. Not just because they are offensive but because they are f***ing shit and are also offensive for the sake of being offensive, nothing else.

That's a very good point you make. But are people really interested in that debate, I'm concerned that it's a no.

Seems to me that it's easy just to cultivate a climate of mistrust and an ignorance against a minority in this society, and that's where the so-called jokes come in, it helps you feel better about a distrust of Muslims, it helps you feel better about painting them as outsiders when the notable thing is that it's mostly British accents behind these veils these days. It helps you to avoid having to think about difficult stuff. As British Bulldog has admitted, the same thing was done to the Irish 30 years ago.

If we're going to get into the capitalisation thing; WHY WOULD MUSLIMS BE WORRIED ABOUT PLAYING PASS THE PARCEL? If that can be explained I might get it and laugh myself to sleep. I know, I'll ask my mate Nav, maybe he as a young British muslim can explain it.

IT'S A JOKE THAT EVERYONE BUT THE MOST PEDANTIC PERSON WOULD UNDERSTAND IN IT'S ENTIRETY.

I'm not saying they'd all find it funny but.....

Are you really that literal in your thought processes?

I don't think so as you stated above in answer to a point by me that you typed people and meant one person in particular. Now, you've either got to accept that one can type one thing and a reasonable person might just understand the intention behind it or we can follow your current line of the most pedantic thought and take everything absolutely literally.

Either way, you can't hide behind your statement that you typed about people being thick when you meant one person in particular.

I hope this makes sense. Basically, you're just as guilty as the rest of us of typing things that, if taken literally, are untrue.

Look, you don't find it funny. Okay, just say that. Don't start trying to pull it apart because in the literal sense it doesn't compute...

As Rowan Atkinson said "every joke has a victim".

People love to show others that they have the moral high ground. A joke placed on here, which I admit I found slightly amusing in a way that you would find one joke in a comedian’s routine funny. See, hear smile move on. If you did not find it funny, ok. But to rip a person apart over it, is plain stupidity.

Have a reasoned debate on the whole aspect of racial tension and intolerance towards each other but for a light hearted joke. Really get a grip.

I for one, not being particularly religious find the whole problem concerning the religious factions, rather tedious but also frightening. That people are prepared to die for what I see as fictitious figures is worrying. The fact that people request tolerance to other faiths etc is completely hypocritical. How can you totally believe your “view of events” while being tolerant of someone else’s it doesn't work. All the religions are dictated by humans not a greater being. If there was a greater being then surely there would only be one religion. I would be tolerant of anyone’s belief as long as it did not affect my daily life. Sadly this is not and will never be the case.

As far as women covering their face, it’s not a religious dictate but a cultural one. Same as the culture for youngsters to wear hoodies. Youngsters however are banned from wearing their hoddies in towns etc. They could be following hoodism. Tell me the difference.

Finally to those celebrating today happy Eid al-Fitr

And it's still going...

Definite contender for shittest thread of the week award. It was a joke, it wasn't hilarious, it was OK. It said 'muslim' in it. So f***ing what? Deal with it.

Again, talking about it on threads like this is "dealing with it".

Yes, there is a disagreement in this thread.

Some feel very uncomfortable that these jokes feed into a climate of prejudice and ignorance against Muslims and that's worrying given the documented rising tide of racist attacks against Muslims we are currently seeing.

Many others on these thread don't see that such a connection exists.

Who is right?

We'll only get some kind of clue on that if we discuss the issue and bravo to Hungry Joe for having the guts to ask the difficult questions.
