Would prefer Halford to Bassong, as he always seems quite likely to make a mistake when I've seen him before. However, it is vital that Hughton can bring his own players in and, if he rates Bassong, we should try to get him.
To be fair, based on his 15 goals last season, you could argue when he signed that COG was a steal for us. Obviously, that's not been the case in reality but compared to other strikers at this level and goals to cost ratio, it could have been seen that way before the season.
As for Murray, I...
Sorry, this might sound a really stupid question but are you suggesting that Hughton won't be able to get us up the table (longer term even promoted) because he only managed 1.17 points per match with Norwich in the Premier League? I assume you realise that Norwich weren't pushing for the top...
Sorry, I take it all back. O'Grady was left completely isolated by Fulham with nobody anywhere near him and definitely didn't have anyone to compete with in the air.
I realise now you weren't at the game and don't have a clue what you're talking about.
Brilliant. I'll take this as proof that you have no answers to my points. Thanks.
As for Fulham, they were attacking but they weren't throwing men forward as much as you say. As I said earlier, to me he stemmed the flow of Fulham attacks by competing for the ball up front, which we weren't...
If you look at other posts on this thread, and elsewhere, it's pretty clear that you're in a minority.
Surely, the fact that I admit to writing him off means my comments praising him are fairer. All I, and others, are saying is he deserves another chance with us playing to his strengths whereas...
I replied to this rubbish yesterday on another thread but will repeat myself. This is a completely fabrication of what actually happened. We were under the cosh and couldn't hold the ball up front when O'Grady came on but he held the ball up really well and the pressure on our defence reduced...
Serious question, were you honestly saying he was a bad manager after less than a season? I can understand last year but he kept you up by 8 points and finished 11th in his first season. Surely, following on from such a hard act as Lambert, he did pretty well to finish mid table first season...
I thought he did okay at Fulham but nothing more. However, he did win the ball back, after a poor first touch, and play a superb ball through for Bennett for the penalty.
However, we looked a lot better in last 10 minutes with a focus up front in O'Grady. Not CMS's fault as he's not that type...
I wasn't necessarily saying he will, just that they need that. Will be interesting to see the length of contract. Is it long term or just to the end of the season and review then.
When's the Chris Hughton is nth longest serving manager thread going to start? With Palace and West Brom yet to appoint and Peter Taylor just been sacked at Gillingham according to the BBC, he's already storming up the list!
It does say he'll have full control of transfers though, which I don't think previous managers have. Don't think most managers care about titles and who they report to, the key is control of signings.
Exactly my thoughts. I saw enough in the 10/15 minutes at Fulham to suggest a new manager, playing him in the right position, can make a decent player out of O'Grady. You don't get 15 goals in a relegated team at this level without having ability. At the very least he's an option until we get a...
Interesting that West Brom have chosen him over Sherwood, who fits much better with what they've built over last few years. Obviously, they decided survival (which Pulis offers a greater chance of in the short term) is more important than style of play, which is fair enough.
They also need some...
You really are a pathetic person, aren't you? Why come on this thread if you're just going to make comments like that.
So, what exactly is wrong with a thread thanking one of our coaching team for taking the club from 4 points from safety to out of the relegation zone in only a week? Seems a...
Absolutely not. We need some work in January and Hughton needs to settle in. Think it may not be the immediate change some are predicting, it will take time, but am confident it will be enough to keep us up.
Then, in the summer, we have time to build with the same manager in charge as the...
Hope that the people moaning on this thread will get behind Hughton and the team rather than continuing to complain. Looking at his overall record in management (alongside an impressive time coaching at Spurs and Newcastle), it looks pretty good:
Wins Championship at Newcastle with over 100...
