I’m probably in the minority but I would rather we didn’t sign Gruda, especially for the sort of sum being talked about. He plays in the same position as Enciso, Buonanotte (and Sarmiento) and I feel like we need to be giving them as many minutes as possible.

I don't really understand the idea of spending loads of money on Wieffer and then playing him out of position.

We've spent far more than £12m on players nowhere near as good as Billy Gilmour. Would be a dreadful bit of business.

I don’t want to derail the thread but we would have had a 1 year option going into the summer he was sold, so no he wouldn’t have gone for nothing.

Even £55m would have been a bargain for MacAllister. But anyway it’s hard to rationalise why the club would do it again this summer, only worse.

I think to sell Gross and Gilmour for only a combined £20m would be far worse than only getting £35m for MacAllister.

Looks like Rushworth, Webster, Igor, Hinshelwood, Wieffer, and Gilmour are all not on the bench. My guess is they all start the next game instead.

Don’t really understand the comparison. Wharton was playing in the championship, and is obviously worth a lot more than that to Palace now.

Elliot Anderson, who’s a year younger than Gilmour, went for £35m. And Gilmour is a better player than Anderson.

That would be absolutely terrible business. 22 years old, first season in the premier league, AFCON young player of the tournament, can play on either side. I mean, Newcastle got £35m for Elliot Anderson!

I would be pretty angry if we sold him for less than £50m in the current market.

I’m not doubting he went on to play at a much higher level than we were at the time, but to answer your own question, when he played for us I remember he was really quite disappointing and barely tried. He then put in a transfer request, so yes he definitely did think he was too good for us.
