A really pathetic Cup 'run'. Seemed not interested right from the time the draw was made. When I was a lad, going out of the cup was a real big thing, now nobody seems to care. I know we want the league, but still not good to go out with a whimper.
Very disappointing with our squad players. It must be so frustrating to not be in the team, probably thinking you should be in the team then, when the chance comes (as it also did in the LC), players like Ince, Holla, Chickson just show thet they aren't up to the standard required.
Always a joy to read your weired & sometimes wonderful musings from our Geordie who adopted our club when we were crap! Who needs an eternity ring when you can wear your beanie cap forever!
I may be wrong but i seem to remember a guy called Paul Plumb who was a bit of a lad around the early 70's. A rather rotund guy with a ruddy complextion probably due to a beer or two.
Surely not the same guy?
Well my idea is of players who left us for clubs that appeared to be bigger & better yet look where we and those clubs are now. Some of those clubs, like Colchester, barely had bigger crowds than we had at Withdean!
Still, it's got loads of replies & that's all that matters!
With the transfer window upon us, many players will be pondering a move to a 'bigger club'. maybe it's a sign of how far we've come but let's have some examples of players/managers who have left us 'for a bigger club'.
I'll start with three,
Paul McCarthy to Wycombe Wanderers.
Dean Hammond to...
It's a surprise to a layman like me. What ever happened to H&S, fire regulations, sprinklers, doors etc. Shocking that such a fire could spread so quickly. Whatever they say now, it would be amazing if there were no casualties. Truly awful.
You are correct. Palace were in or near the top and we were not far behind, although we both missed out in the end, Millwall, Cardiff & 1 other beat us to it, but we both went up the following season.
Must have been some occasion because I'll be the 3rd here for v Torquay in Aug 68 (I also know it was Hiney's 1st game).
An exciting 1-1 draw, near 15,000 crowd, player's brawl, all good stuff. Remember how green the pitch looked, the bright yellow of Torquay and flickers offlames as people lit...
I like playing with 2 wingers but last week showed that better teams can flood the midfield and overrun our 2. It is a better tactic to have 3 in midfield and only 1 wide against the better teams.
All good lads and quite a few from Stanmer school, including Des Chapman who later went off to earn his fortune in Saudi but would come back all tanned and drive a few of us to away games.
As previously stated, palace had had Eagles for a few years but there was no rivalry until they dropped...
Easy to be wise after the event and I love the use, this season, of 2 wide players but maybe we need to look at only one winger and an extra midfield player when we are up against quality opposition.
I thought our midfield two were over-run and thus could not supply the front players or protect...
Does anybody else remember Joe Kinnear being bood as he left the Goldstone pitch on a stretcher...and he played for us!
Kinnear had a long career at Spurs as a classy RB but was one of those players who seemingly came down here to 'retire' on easy money. never looked interested and, over a...
