Paul Barber speaks out on bus price increase etc

With 30 pages and counting on the other thread I hope people won't mind me starting a stand alone thread for this so it does not get lost amid the ongoing discussion. Some comments from Mr Barber on decisions behind bus price increase and other bits and bobs. CLICK HERE. Thought it may be of...

[Albion] Special Buses: Negotiations Ongoing with Alternative Bus Co + "supporter contributiion"

I have some lengthy comments from Paul Barber which will be on my website in the next half hour for anyone interested... Been in dialogue with him regarding these issues since yesterday evening.

Exactly. Perhaps some players could offer to contribute done of their wages to address the FFP problems...

[Albion] Special Buses: Negotiations Ongoing with Alternative Bus Co + "supporter contributiion"

Time for football's goldfish bowl to look outside at the economy, unemployment figures, lack of inflation matching salary increases and used THAT to adjust prices. This game of ours will eventually destroy itself at this level. Unless all clubs look at and address player salaries more and more...

Football will eat itself unless clubs start paying players less.

£75 extra on top of season ticket which already includes a £50 travel subsidy and was advertised and sold as including free travel on the special bus routes is AN ABSOLUTE ****ING JOKE.

[Albion] Special Buses: Negotiations Ongoing with Alternative Bus Co + "supporter contributiion"

Possibly or, I imagine, some may point out that without the previously much boasted about transport plan, the club would possibly not have The Amex and therefore be up shit creek... The transport infrastructure helped make moving to The Amex possible. The two things came very much as a package...

[Albion] Special Buses: Negotiations Ongoing with Alternative Bus Co + "supporter contributiion"

The club has previously said the old £30 contribution by fans was only about a third. So by that logic, about £90 a year per season ticket holder. Working on 22,000 of them, that's just under £2million.

[Albion] Special Buses: Negotiations Ongoing with Alternative Bus Co + "supporter contributiion"

Of course. And it is one I completely agree with. However, the club COULD try and argue that a fan using, say the S, has the option to use public transport by getting bus into town then bus/train out to stadium if they don't want to pay the extra for the New S. It's not an argument I think has...

[Albion] Special Buses: Negotiations Ongoing with Alternative Bus Co + "supporter contributiion"

What about people with mobility problems who rely on the special buses? I assume they will essentially be forced to stump up additional cash which, however small, does not seem at all fair having been sold their season tickets on the understanding free travel was included.

[Albion] Special Buses: Negotiations Ongoing with Alternative Bus Co + "supporter contributiion"

I don't understand the need to separate out the transport cost. Yes, the subsidy etc MUST cost a fortune. But, without it, the club would not have The Amex and all its associated income streams. No transport scheme? Stay at Withdean and play to crowds of 6,000. Also, let's not forget that...

[Albion] Special Buses: Negotiations Ongoing with Alternative Bus Co + "supporter contributiion"

Just had it confirmed by Paul Barber. The special buses WILL run - and will be heavily subsidised by the club - but will involve a supporter contribution. He said the new service will be better and that, once finalised, details will be communicated to supporters on the club's website.

[Albion] Special Buses: Negotiations Ongoing with Alternative Bus Co + "supporter contributiion"

I would hold off speculation etc for a short while. The club is working on something. Announcement etc expected fairly soon. Perhaps best to wait and see what alternative the club comes up with before judging too harshly. As someone who used a special bus service each game last season and...

[Albion] Special Buses: Negotiations Ongoing with Alternative Bus Co + "supporter contributiion"

I sincerely hope the club hasn't looked at the forthcoming additional rail capacity between Brighton and Falmer and thought it could get away with scrapping some of the bus routes.

[Albion] Special Buses: Negotiations Ongoing with Alternative Bus Co + "supporter contributiion"

I imagine they will secure a new bus partner. Perhaps they won't have done so by the time of the Newport County friendly, hence no bus provisions that day.

    No P&R for Newport game

Could it be that the club is in talks with a NEW potential bus operator (after B&H Buses said it isn't doing the special routes anymore) and that they won't be ready in time for that game? Might expain it. Does not even begin to justify the changing of the club charter however...

[Albion] Special Buses: Negotiations Ongoing with Alternative Bus Co + "supporter contributiion"

Speaking from experience and having spoken to people in charge of the buses, the club massively underestimated the popularity of the R route in the first season. They were also very slow to rectify it. Last season they finally set up two different queues for the R and the S bus, meaning an end...
