I don't know enough about other how well other teams have recruited this summer to know where I expect us to finish.
Ten games in and we'll have a better idea of how excited we can all get.
I will reiterate:
- I don't think anyone should boycott any home matches.
- I don't think it is right to demonise Paul Barber. He responds to every single email fans send him, which I would imagine is rare for a man in his position and has attended numerous fans events to answer questions...
I just can't justify spending an extra £75 on top of the £530 (or whatever West Upper now works out as over a season of direct debit) so no, I won't be using it.
A I explained in my post you quoted, I am not trying to galvanise a campaign. I was also clear in saying the issue is with football not just Brighton.
I also said how grateful we should all be to Mr Bloom and that Mr Barber should not be the demon figure many paint him as.
I agree. As I have said elsewhere, I don't believe this is a Brighton problem. Our club is certainly not among the worst offenders.
But fans being priced out here should be a concern.
I am not in any way suggesting a match boycott. That is too extreme. We are a long way off that being necessary.
An interesting stat is that for a fan to have attended every Brighton league game with an average price season ticket, using free travel for home games, car for away and buying a pie, pint and programme at each game last season would have cost around £3,300.
Indeed. But how many do? Mr Barber is impressively accessible and for that we should be grateful but perhaps an independent supporters body might hold more weight than a few people sending moaning emails.
I don't want to galvanise a campaign. I just wanted to start a discussion on how best we as supporters could best voice our concerns over increasing cost.
There does not seem, at present, many lines of communication between fans and club over anything.
Does the Supporters Club ever feedback to...
As an old fashioned football purist I would say yes. Football should be accessible to all and, perhaps more importantly, just because fans will go without elsewhere in their lives or scrimp and save to fund a season ticket does not mean they should have to.
A ticket in the West Stand Upper is now more than £500 for Championship football. Current tickets on sale for Millwall at home are between £35 and £42.
I think it would be naive to assume those prices were not making it very difficult for some people to attend.
I would certainly be interested in helping in any way I could.
A I have tried to make clear, I don't blame Barber for this. It is a football problem. But, this is our club and I am not sure there is a clear way for fans as a body to voice concerns.
I am not saying the club is evil or anything...
Possibly not, but none of the information I am basing these comments on came as a result of dialogue with him which is not readily in the public domain already.
And, rest assured, I more than voiced my opinions on this particular subject with him during said dialogue to the point where I...
