Far, far fairer to use finances as reasoning behind not signing a £5m striker than to justify rising costs and pricing loyal, long-term fans out of attending.
Some people may be happy as things are. This thread probably isn't for them.
But for the rest of us, how can we best vocalise our concerns to the club? If there is one set of supporters who should be able to do is well, it is surely us.
I would suggest each and every fan concerned about...
I live within the city of Brighton and Hove and if I don't stump up the extra £75 I'm going to have a journey of at least twice as long with uncertainty of how long it will take to get home. I love less than four miles from The Amex.
Barber isn't the problem. Protesting against him isn't the solution.
Hate the game, not the player.
Until sky high wages and agents's fees are addressed by ALL football clubs, Brighton will follow suit. If it wasn't Barber it would be someone else doing exactly the same things.
Protest...
A continuation of that would be to say, "Cancel the free bus travel within Brighton etc on local buses. After all, those people who use it could just get the train..."
The club seems to think the priority should be increasing revenues and cutting costs to allow them to keep paying competitive wages which will compete for promotion.
I'd rather the club used FFP as a catalyst to bring wages etc in control and make football more affordable. Not simply pass on...
Personally, I have always watched the Albion first and foremost because I support the Albion. The likelihood of the team winning and being successful etc never really came into any decision making.
Obviously, it was more fun when we won, were successful etc but I don't think I would be more or...
Genuine question because, unless clubs address player wages and agents fees and stop just handing extra costs to supporters, it looks like we can't continue to have both.
Would you be happy to see the Albion price supporters out of of attending regularly if it allowed the club to spend on wages...
Indeed. Definite unfairness to it all now.
People can say, "We'll, use he free regular bus instead. So what if it takes a longer etc," but presumably the natural continuation of that's would be to say, "why not scrap all the free bus transport and park and ride, after all, you can use the free...
Neither does the £50 travel subsidy the train users pay etc, but no additional cost there. It now seems you can pay £75 for your own transport on these bus routes AND eye £50 subsidy to help fund the trains and park and ride you will not use.
Also, and my main point would be, fans now pay...
Financial Fair Play is designed as a way of stopping clubs living beyond their means. That SHOULD mean controlling payments to agents and bringing players' wages under control.
Clubs however are just keeping the wages etc the same and charging fans more to generate the extra income needed to...
Couldn't agree more. FFP in theory is a good idea IF the savings etc were generated by sensible wages, agents fees and the like rather than simply asking fans for more cash.
Sorry I could not get a concrete answer for the people asking about refunds of season tickets etc. I tried. He did say he was unaware of anyone having approached the club to ask about this yet and that each case would be judged on an individual basis.
My guess would be that if for example you...
I asked Paul Barber this about an hour ago for you and he said each case would be judged on its own merits. Not sure that helps clear things up, but that was the answer...
As I said elsewhere, football at this level is getting to a stage when it will destroy itself unless it starts looking outside its bubble.
The economy is in a bad way, unemployment is high, few people are getting inflation matching salary increases, yet football is still paying inflated wages...
While I agree to an extent, I don't agree in selling season tickets for this season without first making fans aware of any likely subsequent costs for what is, largely, going to be the same "getting you from A to B" type service - albeit it with a reserved seat and possibly a bit more padding.
