    [News] Bill Archer (not dead)

I am still struggling with the fact that they took away the north stand roof, let alone Archer, Belloti etc. But best to try and follow the saying "the best form of revenge is a happy life" and there is no doubt BHA and BHA fans are now having the happiest life ever at the Amex and in the...

    [Food] Football ground food

California produces 80% of the world's almonds so hardly a false comparison. But I agree, spanish almonds are much better environmentally and that keeping cows or growing almonds in one of the driest parts of the world is an eco nonsense. 1litre of Almond milk requires 107 litres of Blue water...

    [Food] Football ground food

The vegan lobby mantra that all livestock farming is bad for the planet is no more true than the meat industry mantra that there are no environmental issues with meat production or consumption. The IPCC stated that livestock farming in parts of the world (eg Northern Europe) is ‘part of the...

    [Food] Football ground food

Yet after every match in our 1901 lounge there are loads of vegan pies left and none of any meat based ones.

    [Finance] Base rate increase.

I don't know what is a 'sustainable' level of debt to be fair, but 95% of GDP worries me. Borrowing more and more is easy until you cant afford to pay it back. Thatcher argued that the same rules applied to national budgeting and household budgeting - ie don't spend more than you can afford...

    [Finance] Base rate increase.

An interesting question which one probably cant answer because so many other factors will have come in to play over the space of c.40 years, including inflation. The real hammer for mortgagees in the '80s was the massive hike in interest rates (mortgage rates up to c.17%) which caused a housing...

    [Finance] Base rate increase.

Base rates at 4 to 5 % are still historically incredibly low. I am sure there are plenty on here who will remember rates in excess of 15%. The challenge with low base rates is that it makes borrowing cheap and easy to service. A long period of low interest rates has enabled people to take out...

Didn't know that, thought it was just a few of the top players that had negotiated these

    [Albion] Lee Kang-in

Mallorcan press saying that no club have made an approach for him and the club don't want to let him go. It would, as always, probably come down to money and their valuation is €20m which is roughly the £17m some have quoted here. No reference to there being a release clause though.

    [Albion] Lee Kang-in

He was on a one match suspension and not been tearing up trees for the previous games anyway. He definitely has talent but step up from Mallorca to prem league is a big one and will be a challenge for him. Mallorca are having a decent season (relegated a couple of seasons ago) but a lot of...

    [Cricket] R4 and Rob Andrew.

Is there any reason why anyone would invest in SCC? I appreciate its not football but is there scope for someone to develop the asset or at least get a fair return on capital invested? Genuine question as I have no idea how cricket finances work

[Albion] Scouting and recruitment from Ireland: The Irish Post

Nice article on our Irish recruitment. Remembering the days of Gerry Ryan, Michael Robinson, Steve Penney, Tony Grealish, Gary Howlett and so on, I have always enjoyed our links with Irish football...

[Misc] How can the NHS survive in its current form ?

So you've made my point and thank you for your disdain. The determination by so many people such as yourself (i.e. not just politicians) to maintain the status of the nhs as a political football means it will never 'survive in its current form'. The Putin analogy is childish and irrelevant -...

[Misc] How can the NHS survive in its current form ?

The first part of the solution is for everyone to accept and/or admit what this poster days is true and then for everyone to put party politics aside and work together to provide a way forward for the next 50 years.

[Football] Reports of dangerous over crowding and crushing at Hillsborough

I didn't point a finger, just suggesting other possibilities for the sake of balance, as have others. No desire to argue with you, but the sun jibe is pretty insulting and uncalled for (IMHO)

[Football] Reports of dangerous over crowding and crushing at Hillsborough

Totally agree (except for the horseshit bit) and I was certainly not making any overt observation about the Hillsborough tragedy in my comment. Merely that whenever there is a concern about or incident in a football crowd, it is wrong to just assume that the stewards, police etc are at fault...
